core_17 August 14th, 2004, 07:27 AM Couldn't believe how close this thing let me get! I was about 3 feet from it, lying on my stomach on the ground to get these!
First two have no Photoshop aside from resizing.
Third one had to be lightened.

herins August 14th, 2004, 10:57 AM Those are pretty cute! Were you bribing the squirrel, by any chance?
Tim L. Walker August 14th, 2004, 03:52 PM Hehe... great job, Corry! :D That's amazing that you got that close... takes a lot of patience. :P
Jana August 14th, 2004, 04:35 PM Those are amazing! Nice job :)
core_17 August 14th, 2004, 04:47 PM There are five squirrels that are always coming to this spot, right outside the window of th office where I work. (which happens to be attached to my parents house..hee hee!) We have kinda set up that sideyard to be, like, a bird haven almost. There are several bird feeders and birdbaths, and the yard is completly lined with trees, so it's blocked off from everything. We get hundreds of birds, and those five squirrels and two bunnies that come around regularly. They seem to be getting pretty used to us walking out in thier area to fill the feeders or baths. So, yeah, in a way it was bribed. Everytime I made a move it didn't like, it ran away about 5 feet or so..then as soon as it realized I wasn't going after it, it came back cuz it wanted that food so bad!
forte August 14th, 2004, 05:06 PM What would be useful to beginners like me would be the camera used and the setting
Barrie,
core_17 August 14th, 2004, 05:19 PM It was a Canon Digital Rebel...Aperature 5.6, shutter speed...um...it varied all day cuz the sun was going behind the clouds off and on, so I'm not exactly sure...shoulda been between 60 and 180...dunno...I guess that's 60/1000th of a sec??? Anyone wanna tell me how stupid I'm being? Or tha tI guessed right?
forte August 14th, 2004, 05:26 PM Thanks nice photos BTW
Barrie,
RobW August 14th, 2004, 07:02 PM shoulda been between 60 and 180...dunno...I guess that's 60/1000th of a sec??? Anyone wanna tell me how stupid I'm being? Or tha tI guessed right?
Shutter speed and aperture numbers are inverse fractions, for example 60 means 1/60 of a second and 250 means 1/250s. However once you get into shutter speeds over 1 second, it will show on your LCD as 2", signalling that the number is not a fraction :)
The same goes for apertures, an aperture of 5.6 means that the visual diameter of the opening is 1/5.6 the focal length.
You could always pull up the exif information as well, by right clicking on your unedited picture, clicking properties, and going to summary. Under the summary tab click 'advanced ->' and it will show all the info you need.
Here's a good site for exposure terminology

BTW those are great captures :D
core_17 August 14th, 2004, 09:39 PM Hey, thanks! THat's what I meant! I knew what I was saying wasn't quite right! Heh heh!
GerryDavid August 15th, 2004, 02:02 AM Nice pics Core. some of these are 1/60th of a second? If so you must have a really steady hand since most would have some blur from hand shake in it. :0) I try not to go any slower than 1/250th with a 80mm lense but I could prob get away with 1/125th, I havent really tried.
mwenger August 15th, 2004, 05:53 PM Very good, amazing shots. It incredible how close you got. Too cute.
altyfc August 16th, 2004, 11:18 AM Wow... those are great shots. Like the DOF on the last one especially.
Aaron
core_17 August 16th, 2004, 07:04 PM Yeah, I can get some great dof with that lense I was using (300mm), and plus I was so close to the subject anyway!
