New camera

I'm just itching for a decent camera... but I have no clue where to start, look, what brands are the best...

I have looked at a few Canon cameras, particularly the Canon Rebel K2 SLR Film Camera because it is pretty cheap (which is a big concern). But I'd like a digital camera. Can someone give me some tips as to what to look for? I'm new to this, so what things are best or easier for a newbie to work with first?

First off, what's your budget? And what type of photography are you hoping to do with the camera?

My budget would like to stay under $500 if at all possible. Like I said I'm new, so I don't want to spend a whole lot of money on something that I may not turn out to like a whole lot, or be good at. I am going to be in a visuals in communications class this fall, and would probably use it for that class... also thinkin of going in the photojournalistic direction with my journalism major...

does that work?

Yeah, that's fine. But with that budget, you won't be able to go digital. Your best bet is to probably get a good used SLR camera, and a couple of lenses and play around to figure out if you really like it or not. ;)

Ti'ms right. A good used camera body, like a Canon Elan 7 or Elan IIe and a couple of good lenses would be a good idea, and much cheaper than the digital equivalent.

Id invest in an elan II, a mid range zoom, and a 50mm 1.8. That way you get some good lenses, and save some bucks for film and developing.

You might even be able to squeeze a film scanner out it you do it right.
