1) Intentional Planning

For a lot of us, it's right around spring break time - a break from school or work - right in between winter/Christmas break and summer. For those in the southern hemisphere, it's the midway point between summer and winter. Either way, seasons are beginning to change, and it's usually a good time to plan ahead, photography-wise, for the coming season. Whether it's getting warmer or colder out, or lighter or darker, there are changes we make to what type of gear we bring around with us, in addition to deciding when and where the best places and times are to shoot. What are your plans for the next 3 months? Are you going on a trip somewhere, or will you be hanging around home? Have you planned to go out and do some photo shoots? If you don't have any plans, now's the time to make them. Be intentional about when and where you're going to shoot, and plan for the next 3 months (or longer!) now. Add them to your calendar, and when it comes time, make sure you go out and do it. If you're not intentional about taking time for your photography, you'll never improve as a photographer, and that's what we all want, isn't it?

2) Sponsor:

If you're a professional photographer (or aspiring to be one!), you probably have a web site (and if you don't, you should!). Take a minute and think about your website. How easy is it to update with fresh images or content? If you have a webmaster you just call or shoot him or her an email and wait 3-4 weeks and then get a bill for $150 for a few changes. If you do it yourself you labor over it for hours, but at least the price is right. Well, I found this company called Tafota that has really nice Flash website templates you can manage yourself without the fuss. Imagine having the ability of creating up to 20 pages of information, have up to 6 galleries of 50 images each and being able to switch them out easily. Change your color scheme with just a couple mouse clicks. They even have a music library already built in for you. But what's really great is if you call them with a question, most of the time a real person answers (and the real person actually knows what they're talking about)! They also give you the option of purchasing one of their templates or leasing one. In the long run it's less expensive to purchase, but with the lease program you can check things out and get started for pocket change. As an added bonus (being a member of the Corner does have its benefits, you know!) you can take advantage of an offer for $50 off the set up fee. Check them out at and click on the Designs button to see examples of their different templates. Use the promo code "pc" to take the $50 off if you order (this is a limited-time offer, so if you're sitting on the fence, now is the time to get your website up and running!). With Tafota, managing your website has never been easier.

7) Wrapping Up

There's lots going on around the Corner right now: a Premiere Membership sale, mod recruitment, a mapping project, Contest Corner Challenges are up and running again, voting for the Photograph of the Month, and the list goes on. And if you're not a Premiere Member yet, you're missing out on one of the best things about the Corner: Premiere Projects. Check for links to all of this stuff somewhere in this newsletter. Also, if you've been hanging out in the Conversation Corner lately, you may have noticed that it's PhotographyCorner's 5th birthday this month (technically, I believe it was on March 24th). 5 years - wow! Oh how we've grown in the past 5 years: Almost 600,000 posts, 15,000 members, hundreds of contests, and hundreds of thousands of photographs posted and uploaded. Yet the Corner is so much more than that. A lot of comments I receive is that PhotographyCorner is much more of a "community" than a lot of other photography websites. Real friendships and mentorships are formed here every day. It's all fine and dandy if you want to "just learn" about photography - there are lots of sites around the web that do that. But if you want to emerge yourself into a group of like-minded, friendly photographers, who not only share your passion of photography, but also enjoy the company of those that enjoy photography, then the Corner is the best destination online - and I have YOU to thank for that. It's people like YOU that make the Corner the amazing photography portal that it is. You. Want to get more out of the Corner, put more back in. It's that simple. So go out and take some photos, then come back to the Corner to discuss them. I bet you'll find you'll learn a lot more simply "hanging out" with other photographers that you ever would in a classroom or by reading a bunch of articles or tutorials...

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
