1) Where's Our Admin?

I'm here, I promise. I know in the last newsletter I promised I would be around more. Take my word for it this time, though. Seriously. I'm back for good. Ok, well, I'm going away again at the beginning of June, but just for a little over a week. I'll still be checking in, though (am I not allowed to have a vacation??!). Now that I've got all moved (both my house and office), I should have a LOT more time to spend on the site. Sorry for being an absent admin for the past month. Forgive me? Hopefully I will not have to be away from the site for that length of time again. Special thanks for the mods and community leaders that helped the Corner run smoothly in my absence. For those of you that are at least mildly familiar with Canadian geography, I moved from Toronto, Ontario (,+Ontario&om=1 ) to a small, rural community in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia ( ). So small and remote, in fact, that, as it sits right now, I can't even get a high speed internet connection at my new house and am working out of an office "in town" (and when I say "in town", I am referring to a "village" of around 500 people). At least I have water-front property. ;) But all that aside, I am back around the Corner in full force. As always, we're growing in leaps and bounds, and that will not change. Look for some great new contests, forums, sponsors and extras-to-be-revealed-at-a-later-date coming to a Corner near you!

2) Sponsor: Lensbabies

"What's a Lensbaby?" you ask. You mean you haven't heard? Winner's of numerous awards, including the Professional Photographer's 2004 Hot 1 Awards (which honor the most outstanding products for the professional photography market), a Lensbaby is a selective focus lens that creates images like those produced by a Holga film camera, but works with your digital SLR. Whether used to capture the retro feel of yesterdays photography or used to embrace a unique way to express creativity in-camera as opposed to creativity in the digital darkroom, Lensbaby 2.0 is worth every penny. Read the review in our Photography Resource Center, then visit their site for ordering info. ( )

3) Friends of the Corner:

You may have noticed a small forum appear sometime in the past month near the bottom of the Corner called "School of". If you haven't, here's the link to it: We've recently partnered with and we will be hosting their forums right here at the Corner from now on. In addition, look for 30+ new tutorials to appear in our Photography Resources Center courtesy of SoP over the next couple of months. Make sure you drop by the forum and welcome the newest friends of the Corner:

4) I'm New Here. What Do I Need to Know?

If I only knew where to start. Do you know what you've gotten yourself into? First off, check your watch. Do you have at least half an hour to do some reading? ;) Here are a list of a couple of threads to read to help get better acquainted with the PhotographyCorner community. Even if you're not a "Corner Newbie", if you haven't read all these threads already, or even if you read them a while back, it's probably not a bad idea to skim through them again. ;)

5) The Corner Lounge

Don't you just wish there was a little café in town where you could sit in a nice, big, comfy chair, have some coffee or a beer, and chat with fellow photographers? Well, your town doesn't have that. But the Corner has something close! Ok, so it's basically just a chat room... but what's to stop you from sitting yourself down in a comfy chair and drinking a beer or coffee while chatting in there? Nothing! So what's stopping you?

Look for scheduled chats coming later on in the summer or early fall. In the meantime, sit back, relax, and enjoy the Corner Lounge! Oh, and in case you can't find the main door, check around back. The key is under the mat. Here's the link:

6) "Noteworthy Notables"

We've had a Noteworthy Notables section in every newsletter to date. While I'm not going to list a bunch of hot-topic threads or resources this month, this section is still here, at least. I promise there will be more Noteworthy Notables next month. If you really need your fix, though, go back up to section 4 of the newsletter and read those threads again. ;)

7) Corner Contests: Past, Present & Future

For almost 2 years now, we've been running Contest Corner Challenges at the Corner. To check back and see some of the past winners, visit or click on the navigation tab at the top of every page labeled "ccc". Our past contest, CCC#21: Up in the Air, came with a little controversy, but from the problems encountered during that contest, the community as a whole has grown and learned from it. From it, we will continue to grow and change as the needs of the community grow and change. To discuss the contest, and possible changes that may result, check out this thread:

Congrats to Carl (Spicoli) for winning CCC#21 - his 3rd - yup, you read correctly, his THIRD - CCC win. I think it's about time we all start bugging him to spill some of his photographic secrets in the form of articles and tutorials for our photography resource center, eh? Send him a PM and ask, and we'll see what he says. ;)

CCC#22 has now been announced. The theme is "Place of Worship". It not only involves photography, but should also make you think a little bit. You've got almost a month to get an entry in, so there are no excuses for not entering a photograph in this contest. Check out this thread for more details:

And that about wraps it up for this newsletter. If you read this far, congratulations... it was a long one this month. As always, if you have any feedback on the newsletter, or on the site in general, feel free to email me with feedback ( ) - I always love to hear from members of the community. Oh, and make sure you read the newsletter next month - there may be prizes in it for you. ;)

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
