1) Hanging Around the Corner

For those that are relatively new to PhotographyCorner - welcome to our community! For those that have been here for a while - hey, look, it’s another newsletter! ;) PhotographyCorner has been around for almost a decade (whoa!), and continues to grow into the photographic “home-on-the-web” for beginner, amateur and professional photographers alike - and it’s all because of YOU! There may be busier or more popular photography communities online, but none have the community that we have here. Time and time again I hear how much people love it here once they get involved in the community. There’s just something special that works around the Corner - people share photographs and receive feedback, all the while growing in their photography. Honestly, it makes me proud and humbled all at the same time as I watch folks grow from getting their first dSLR, to producing amazing photography, winning contests and competitions, and growing into spectacular photographers - many of whom credit the Corner as being instrumental in their growth. I LOVE it! Keep hanging around the Corner, and keep doing what you’re doing. Put the time and effort into the community, and I promise, it’ll keep giving back to you, and we’ll all continue to become better photographers.

4) How to Make the Most of the Corner

PhotographyCorner is a big site - there are lots of places to explore, and HUGE amounts of photographic knowledge to consume. Whether you’ve been here for years, or you’re just beginning to explore the site, there are a bunch of different places you need to check out. Here are a few places to get you started.

a) The Forum ( http://www.photographycorner.com/forum ): Obviously the core of the Corner is the community, and most of the community happens in the forum: conversation, photo-sharing, feedback, critique, contest announcements. There are lots of different places to explore, and the best way to get aquatinted with all that goes on in there is to just jump right on in. Introduce yourself (if you haven’t already) in the Member Introduction section, post up a couple of photographs, pass along some feedback, critiques and praise on someone else’s photograph, talk about your gear - just get involved, and trust me - you’ll feel like you’re a part of the community in no time.

b) The Photo Galleries ( http://www.photographycorner.com/galleries ): Admittedly, it’s not the most advanced photo gallery software out there, but it’s still a great way to post up your photographs, and browse through and comment on the photographs of others. Many folks use the gallery to host the images they later share on the forums. There are some great tutorials on how to make the most out of the galleries in the “Questions & Suggestions” forum.

c) The Corner Resource Center ( http://www.photographycorner.com/resources ): These pages hold hundreds of articles, tutorials and products reviews. Some written by professionals, and some written by members just like you. The most popular pages on the site per month (based on the number of visitors) are always from the Corner Resource Center. If you haven’t discovered the awesomeness that is within, take some time and explore the gems of photographic knowledge that inhabit this section of the Corner.

d) The Corner Blog ( http://www.photographycorner.com/blog ): If you don’t have time to read through the forums, the Corner Blog is the best place to keep on top of what is going on around the site. New articles, contests and updates are always posted to the Corner Blog - sometimes some special reviews or give-aways are also posted here. Subscribe to the Corner Blog, and have posts delivered right to your inbox or RSS reader.

5) Help Around the Corner

Obviously a site this size needs more than one person running the show. While I do a bunch of the behind-the-scenes stuff to make sure this place runs smoothly, we have a group of moderators that help me immensely. If you spend a lot of time in the forums, you’ve no doubt noticed the increase in folks registering and spamming the forums - the moderators and I are the volunteers that clean that stuff up (thanks to those that are flagging the posts so we know to remove them, by the way!). If you’re interested in getting more involved around the Corner, and have been an active member here for a while, we’d love to expand our current group of moderators. If you’re interested in helping out more behind the scenes, send me an email or PM and let me know! If you want to help out occasionally, but don’t want to commit to being a moderator, there’s still a way you can help! If you see spam or an inappropriate post, just click on the little “!” in the top right corner of the post and let us know that we need to come and check it out. Believe it or not, that helps tremendously in combatting these pesky spammers - the faster we can remove the offending posts, the less likely they’ll keep coming back and defacing our community. Thanks for everything you do to keep this community growing and thriving!

See you around the Corner,
