Re: Darters in flight

Marvelously sharp and wonderful stop-action shots. Very well done indeed.

Re: Bee on sunflower

I have a 60mm and a 105mm macro (micro, in Nikon-speak) lens. The smaller lens is wonderful for close-ups of smaller items, such as insects, though it also does very well with larger flowers, etc....

Re: a spider web with dew drops

I use a flash with a diffuser in front of it, to minimize 'hot spots'. Depending on your camera, you might have a button which lets you control the brightness of your flash. Fortunately, it's not...

Re: Playing around

Please keep 'playing around', if that's the result! Awesome details in the upper drops, brilliant tones and highlights, and gorgeous colour. Way to go!

Re: Spider Web

The apparent angle at which you took this image is intriguing. Most people take the shot face-on, rather than at an angle, and I think that's what makes this one special. Well done.

Re: Tears of a Tulip

Exquisite colour and fine detail on the main petal. Was there a way to reposition to avoid the blade of grass obscuring the right side of the flower, I wonder? Sometimes, there's no way to do so, I...

Re: Color shots

Deep, rich colours really bring these flower images to life. The cropping job on the first one has special eye-appeal to me. Well done.

Re: a spider web with dew drops

Vivid colours and eye-pleasing overall. There seems to be only a very small portion of the whole image in focus, though. Perhaps a greater DOF would have helped in that regard. Otherwise, a...

Re: A (dr)ipod!!

Excellent detail, which isn't easy to attain with the pods being all shades of grey or off-white. Nicely done.

Re: Spring in drops

What can I say? They're awesome! I've seen several such images, but these are the sharpest and most colourful I ever remember seeing. Congratulations! I can't think of a single way they could be...

Re: Stick with wings

Some fine shots you have there! The third (middle) one is brighter, sharper, and has more detail, and is the clear winner of the group, in my opinion. The others would have benefitted from a faster...

Re: Riding the Bee

That is a delightful point of view shot, but I agree with Rubina -- a faster shutter speed would have made it much sharper. Also, the bee is somewhat over-exposed, so the colours look a bit...

Re: Bee on sunflower

Your skill in taking the shots, even with a modest kit lens, makes me think a macro lens is likely in the offing. I have a feeling you will amaze and thrill yourself when you have it and can combine...

Re: Last shots to insects in flight

It's super-difficult to get sharp images of insects in flight. Kudos galore for your wonderful captures! I'm most impressed by the last one, because you were able to capture the hairs on the body in...

Re: a rose by any other name...

The red rose is attractive, but the lighting for the yellow rose is stellar! You have a very complimentary DOF for each, as well. There seems to be pixellation on the edges of the red rose, though....

Re: one last batch from Thursday's trip the botanical garden

Brilliant colours, and especially-sharp details in the first photo. Again, the shallow DOF really makes the blue flowers pop. The third image has an aesthetically-pleasingly close crop which draws...

Re: went to the botanical garden today...

All three are wonderful shots, but the extreme close-up, vivid hues and so-sharp detail in photos 1 and 3 make them my favourites, too. The silver ball flower especially stands out because of the...

Re: Vote for the July 2012 Photograph of the Month

Congratulations to all who have their photos in this competition. The quality of your photos has made this a very difficult choice.
