Snowy owl

Went up north to near the Canadian border on Friday to see a snowy owl that's been hanging out there. She was among some driftwood logs about 150 yards away, maybe a little more, so these are...

Autumn glory

We've had a pretty colorful fall here this year... much better than most. Got this shot this afternoon in a river valley on the eastern slope of the Cascades...

Re: Eagle with supper, act II (6)

Thanks, Nod. The whole thing took maybe 10 minutes from the eagle's first appearance with the coot till it grabbed the remains and flew off.

Eagle with supper, act II (6)

Here's the second half of the story of the eagle and the coot (a couple of these may be a bit gruesome for the faint of heart)... The eagle was enjoying its meal when a second eagle, not shown,...

Eagle with supper (6)

This eagle caught a coot somewhere out of sight and flew into the bay with its prey in its talons... flew up to the top of an osprey tower to enjoy its feast.

Re: Two birds on a thing that sticks out in front of a cruise boat!

Weird! If this is at the bow, on the waterline, it's probably a sonar dome... never seen that on a cruise ship, though... Fun shot!

Young sora, encore performance

The young sora came out again this afternoon at my favorite "bird park"... if only the adults would be as cooperative!

A very brazen snipe

A few shots of a very cooperative Wilson's snipe at my favorite "bird park"... this little guy was not shy at all! Came out, casually strolled by not 15 feet away, foraged for a while, posed a few...

Re: Another sora

Thanks, Orv!

They really don't. The immature bird I saw about 2 weeks ago did give me a lot of looks, and I got about 100 photos of it, but the adults seem much more skittish and reclusive....

Yellow-bellied sapsucker (4)

This seems to be the year for unusual or rare visitors to this area... these are shots of a female yellow-bellied sapsucker that's been hanging around at a local park the past several days. These...

Another sora

An adult this time... didn't come out in the open like the young bird did a couple of weeks ago, but it did present a brief view through the grass, enough for a shot or two...
