1) Sizzling Summer

Well, regardless of where you live in the world, or what season it is, it's been a sizzling summer around the Corner. We now have well over 300,000 posts and almost 30,000 images uploaded from over 7,500 members. The new server we got last month has made a huge difference: pages are loading more quickly, the site is consistently staying up, the chatroom is working better (yes, we have a chatroom, check it out: http://www.photographycorner.com/chat/flashchat.php ), and people are posting more and more everyday. In fact, several days in the past month, we have had over 1,000 posts just in 1 day! We now average a post every 2 minutes. At the current rate of growth, we'll hit the 1 post/minute mark before our third birthday! That's crazy! Anyways, this newsletter is already shaping up to be a long one, so I'm going to cut the intro short, and we'll just get right into it!

2) Sponsor: Digital Photography Success

At Last! How to take the digital photos you've always wanted, and finally have them turn out like a professional photographer has taken them... Even if you've never used a digital camera before and don't know anything about photography! If you want to take excellent, professional looking photos of the things you love with your digital camera and have them turn out with perfect clarity and superb detail and depth, every single time, as if a professional photographer has taken them with just your ordinary digital camera, this website will be the most important you have ever read (after the Corner, of course). Check out Amy Refrey's site for some great tips on having Digital Photography Success: http://thecorner.digipix.hop.clickbank.net/

3) CCC Voting Reminder

Instead of sending out another reminder in a couple of days to vote on Contest Corner Challenge #24: Thirsty, I thought I'd save your inbox from another email, and just remind you here. You have until about noon on Monday, August 21st, 2006 to get your vote in. There are 27 photographs to choose from, so take your time and pick the best one for the contest. Here's the link: http://www.photographycorner.com/for...ad.php?t=41121 Go take a look and vote now, if you haven't already. Then you can come back and read the rest of the newsletter. It'll be here when you get back, I promise.

4) Forums on the Move

If you're a Photo Sharing Corner regular, you've probably noticed this already. If you don't drop by the Photo Sharing Corner much, maybe you haven't. But over the past month, we've split up the Landscape/Nature forum, as well as the Animals forum. Now in the Landscape/Nature, you have a separate forum to post both Flowers & Plants, and one for Sunrises & Sunsets. And in the Animals forum, there are now separate sub-forums for Birds, Domestic Animals, and Insects. Thanks to all the mods that helped in getting the new forums all sorted out. If you have any questions as to what should go where, feel free to ask in the Questions & Suggestions forum. Overall this should help keep threads on the first page for a little extra while longer, as well as make it easier to find the photos you want to see and comment on (or not see and not comment on!).

5) New Mods

Speaking of the mods, we've added a whole handful of them this past month. If you're not sure who the mods are, you can spot them because they have blue camera rank icons (like mine). If that's not enough help, there's a list of them here: http://www.photographycorner.com/forum/showgroups.php If you need a post moved or deleted, or you see some spam you think we should get rid of, just let one of them know, and they'll make it happen. Here's a list of the mods we've added to the site this past month (make sure you send them a congratulatory PM and give them lots of reputation points... they like that): CornflakeGirl (Nicole), Dave Noel (Dave), DDAY (Dan), jaimedep (Jaime), PhotosNFun (Joe) & Scott U. (Scott). Thanks for all your help around the Corner guys (and girls). This place wouldn't be here without you (and that forum move would have taken me a month to do by myself!)!!!

6) Premiere Projects: A New Twist

If, for whatever reason, you're still not a Premiere Member, here's another reason for you to give me some extra beer mone... er, donate some money to the site: Premiere Projects. "Now wait a minute," you're thinking, "That's been around for a while, hasn't it?" Well ya, they've been around for a while. In fact, we've done over 35 projects already with almost 500 photos submitted. Every two weeks or so, a new project is issued to the Premiere Member Community to stretch our photographic skills - everything from unique techniques, to stretching how you think about photography. Thanks to the suggestion from one of our new mods (Thanks Dan), we've implemented an added twist called "Self Critique." It's a great addition to the projects both as someone who submits a photograph and to those who can comment on the photograph. I'd tell you all about it, but that would kinda spoil the surprise, wouldn't it. To take a look at thumbnails from the past projects, check out the Premiere Projects Gallery: http://www.photographycorner.com/for...splay.php?f=36 For more information on becoming a Premiere Member, visit http://www.photographycorner.com/premiere-membership

7) Social Bookmarking

Don't worry. You're still in the PhotographyCorner newsletter... you didn't somehow wander off into a sociology newsletter or something. So what does social bookmarking have to do with PhotographyCorner or photography for that matter? Hmmmm. I know I put this section in here for a reason. Oh, right! One of the new trends online right now is social bookmarking and a great way to help bring new members to the site and increase the Corner's exposure on the internet is through social bookmarking. Sites like del.icio.us, digg.com and reddit.com all have links to PhotographyCorner.com from people that enjoy the content on this site. If you haven't signed up for accounts at any of those 3 sites, sign up and start making some social bookmarks! At the bottom of every article, tutorial and product review in our photography resource center, there are a couple of links at the bottom to delicious and digg (and a reddit link is coming soon). You can use these links to submit our stuff to these sites. Other people, in turn, see those links, and come to the Corner. Anyways, I hope I didn't confuse anyone. If you know what I'm talking about, great. If not, sorry. :( Here are some links worth checking out, though:

digg.com: http://digg.com/search?area=all&age=...aphycorner.com
reddit.com: http://reddit.com/search?q=photographycorner.com

9) Referrals: Help the Corner Continue to Grow

I was going to do a write-up on referrals, but then I realized the forum FAQ did a better job than I ever would have. Basically, if you refer someone to the Corner, you get credited with the referral. Referrals add reputation points along with other surprises and stuff (you'll just have to find out now, won't you). Here's everything you ever wanted to know about referrals: http://www.photographycorner.com/for...l&titlesonly=0

Now, this newsletter has got to be the longest one to date. Coming soon, though, we're going to change the format of the newsletter from text-based to something a little more appropriate for a photography site. That's about all I'm going to say for now, so not to ruin the surprise, but if you have any suggestions about what you'd like to see in future newsletters, email me back and let me know. I'm open to all suggestions.

Now, without further adieu, go forth make your photography fruitful, and may the membership of the Corner multiply and spread themselves out throughout the earth (photography-paraphrase of Genesis 9:1). ;)

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
