1) Following the Photograsphere

Ok, so I made up the word "photograsphere," but I think you get what I mean. For a lot of us that are photographers (whether you're a beginner, amateur or pro), we spend at least some of our time keeping up with that's going on in the world of photography (now dubbed the photograsphere - you heard it here first, folks!). Myself, I spend a good hour per day reading up on new cameras, lenses, companies, software and everything else that comes up. With the digital photography era continuing to expand, it can be difficult to keep on top of everything. So how DO you keep on top of everything? Obviously hanging around the Corner helps - there are new posts and discussions on everything-photography all over the Corner. Subscribing to the Corner Blog helps, too - at least you'll keep on top of everything that's happening around the Corner (hint: you can subscribe here: http://twurl.nl/6vf6go ). But other than the Corner, where else do you go to get the latest word in the photograsphere? Hit reply to this email to let me know - I'm always looking for a good read, and seeing where else people head for their photography-fill helps me to know what to add to the Corner down the road (because if I can make the Corner your one-stop-shop for photography, well... that would be awesome!).

2) Sponsor: Canvas On Demand

If you’ve been around the Corner the past couple of months, in the top-right corner, you’ve probably noticed the Canvas On Demand banners showing up now and then (you know, the one that says “Got Photos? Turn them into beautiful artwork with a custom canvas gallery wrap”). Ever really wondered exactly what it’s all about? Well, whether you wondered or not, I’m going to tell you.

Picture one of your favorite photographs. Now picture that photograph printed on an artist canvas, stretched over wooden supports so only your photograph is showing (like what you’d see in a gallery, which is why they’re called ‘gallery wraps’). It looks pretty awesome, doesn’t it. There’s ‘something’ about gallery wraps that are so much better than a traditional print in a frame: they look professional and they literally stand out, floating on the wall with that added ‘third dimension,’ and there’s no frame to take away any of the focus from the photograph – just your photograph, sticking out from the wall. If you’ve been to a gallery and seen gallery-wrapped photographs, though, I don’t need to convince you. If you haven’t, check out some samples at www.canvasondemand.com.

So why would you order them from Canvas On Demand? With sizes from 8”x8” to 55”x100”, you’re bound to find the size you’re looking for. Turnaround time is 2-3 days, and they offer a 100% Money Back guarantee! And if that wasn’t enough, they’re also offering $25 off your first order for members of the Corner. Visit this link to get your coupon: http://www.canvasondemand.com/promo/PhotographyCorner (and you'd better hurry, as this promo is ending soon!).

6) Working Through the Tough Times

Unless you live under a rock (... wait, you have an internet connection under a rock??!), you're at least aware of the economic problems going on around the world, if not directly affected by them. Whether we like it or not, when money is tight, we get stressed out. Some people work harder to make ends meet, others get depressed and just mope around (I do a little of both, myself...). Either way, the fun things in life tend to get pushed to the backburner. Even if you're a professional photographer, photography is one of those fun things in life (if it's not for you, you're in the wrong place... this is a photography community... remember?). Sure, you may not have the coinage to buy that new dSLR or new lens you were hoping to get yourself for Christmas, but that doesn't mean you can't do photography anymore, right? You were doing fine with the stuff you've got. Maybe instead of packing that camera in the closet and working a couple extra hours a week, use that time to take some photographs instead. It'll get your creative juices flowing, and bring a little more fun back into your life. You may even become more productive at work... and that may just turn things around! You love photography - it makes you happy, right? So if the economic problems have got you down, use photography to lift your spirits up. And before you know it, you'll have enough money to buy that new whateveryouwanted anyways.

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
