1) A Gutsy Effort

One of the phrases that I've heard a lot over the past week or so (during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics) is that this person or team put forth a "gutsy effort" or a "gutsy performance." In the world of sports, the winners are the people that train the hardest, practice daily, and dedicate as much time as they can to becoming better. Sure some natural talent comes into play, but without the practice, the training, the right equipment, and the drive to succeed, natural talent simply doesn't cut it. If the athletes don't also put forth a gutsy effort, they're not going home with the gold. Not surprisingly, these same principles can be directly applied to photography as well. You can have a "good eye" (natural talent), the right equipment (cameras, lenses, filters, lighting), training, and even lots of practice - these things will definitely help make you a better photographer. What will push you over the edge as a photographer, though, is a "gutsy effort." Approach each photograph with the same intensity that an athlete would approach a gold medal game/race, and you'll find that you'll take those "once-in-a-lifetime" photographs a lot more often. Schedule a time for yourself over the next couple of weeks, and go out and take some fantastic photographs.

8) What Do You Want Around the Corner?

When it comes right down to it, the Corner is all about the people who visit it: it's about your photographs, your equipment, your contests - your photography. Without you, the Corner simply wouldn't be around. With that in mind, what do you want to see done around the Corner to make it better? If you visit other photography sites (*gasp!*), what are you getting there that you're not getting around the Corner? We want to make PhotographyCorner the ultimate destination for photographers online, and the best way to do that is to find out what you, the community, want. So tell us. Reply to this email and let us know. More contests? More reviews? A shopping section? Let us know what you want around the Corner!

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
