1) Summer Vacation

For a lot of us, we're smack-dab in the middle of summer, and for many that means summer vacation. And what do vacations mean to photographers? LOTS of photos! New people to photograph. New places to photograph. Funny photos. Crazy photos. Amazing photos. Blurry photos. Over-exposed photos. Under-exposed photos.... You get the idea.

Here are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, make sure to drop by the Corner now and then to show us some of these photos - that's what we're here for!! Don't wait until September to post up 2,000 photos all at once - space them out throughout the summer! We can comment and critique, give feedback, and even simply live vicariously through your summer vacations. ;) Secondly, make sure you have enough memory cards to hold all of your photos: http://amzn.to/c2pdWa There's nothing worse than missing that perfect photograph while trying to scroll through and manually delete photographs from your memory card. Finally, make sure you have extra batteries: http://amzn.to/bx9mKa Ok, the only thing worse than not having enough memory cards is running out of batteries (then having to carry around a "dead" camera for the rest of the day). Make sure to always bring your charger, and carry extra batteries with you. They're not that expensive, and they don't take up a lot of room in your bag.

So to review: buy and bring extra memory cards and batteries & post up some of your photos at the Corner. Sounds like a recipe for some great photography this summer! ;) Enjoy the rest of the newsletter - maybe it'll make some good "waiting for your plane in the airport" reading or something...

2) Sponsor: Tamron

The Tamron SP AF10-24mm Di II is a high performance ultra-wideangle zoom featuring an unprecedented 2.4X zoom ratio—the best in its class. This innovative lens is designed for Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony DSLRs with APS-C sized sensors and offers a 35mm-equivalent range of 16-37mm in a lightweight and compact design. With this versatile zoom, photographers can capture magnificent vistas and extraordinary close-ups, bold compositions and unique perspectives, creating imagery impossible with a standard wideangle. The advanced optical system features large-aperture, glass-molded aspherical elements, hybrid aspherical elements, and elements made of special low-dispersion glass, all of which combine to deliver high-quality imagery and performance. The lens uses a new optical system designed to confine the changing angles of incidences of light rays reaching the imager within a certain scope over the entire image field from center to periphery, addressing the effects of variances caused by zooming. Peripheral light fall-off that becomes an image-degrading factor in wideangle photography is minimized to ensure high optical quality across the image plane. Newly developed multiple-layer coatings and internal surface coatings to reduce image degradation caused by the reflection of light rays entering the lens front are incorporated. Because close-focusing capability is essential in wideangle photography, Tamron engineered a 9.4" minimum focus distance throughout the zoom range. This capability gives you freedom to create images with an exaggerated perspective at the 10mm ultra-wideangle end and shoot with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5 at the 24mm setting, the best magnification ratio in its class. http://amzn.to/cIWIBP

8) Twitter & Facebook

Did you know you can find the Corner on Twitter and Facebook? More and more people are using "smart phones" and a variety of other devices to access the web these days (I'm even considering getting an iPhone 4 this week...), but full-blown websites can still be quite cumbersome for these small machines. A lot of people instead access information about their favorite websites via social media. The Corner has been on Twitter and Facebook for a couple of years (more Twitter than Facebook), but we want YOU to join the party! If you're tweeting, make sure you're following the Corner: http://www.twitter.com/thecorner. And if you've got a Facebook account, make sure to drop by the PhotographyCorner Fan page, and give us a "like" - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Photog...er/58865075165 We'll post blog updates, contests, tutorials, and a whole bunch of other stuff going on around the Corner. Join in the conversation! Who knows, we might even throw out a Facebook/Twitter exclusive contest one of these days... *hint, hint*

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
