1) Back from Vacation

It's the end of August (and it might even be the beginning of September by the time you read this). For most of us, flipping the calendar page over from August to September signals the unofficial end of summer. As photographers, it usually means it's time to start sorting through the photographs we took all summer - and for some of us, that can be a daunting task. If you've only been snapping, but not processing for the past several months, you could have THOUSANDS of photographs waiting for you to sort through them. Where to begin? How to decide which ones are "keepers," which ones to discard, and which ones to just save for later? I wish I had a magic answer for you, but really, you've just gotta set some time aside, and start browsing through what you've taken. Put together a system of tagging or rating your keepers, and then start doing some post processing.

Take some neat snapshots? Share them in the Photo Sharing Corner ( http://www.photographycorner.com/for...splay.php?f=21 ). And don't forget to show us some of the "keepers" in the Critiques & Feedback Corner ( http://www.photographycorner.com/for...isplay.php?f=5 ). Maybe the community can even give you some suggestions on how to make it better next time, or even a different way to process the images you did take. But if you want some comments and help with your photographs, make sure you do the same to others... Take 10 minutes now, before you even start on that digital stack of photos to sort through, and take a look at some of the stuff others have already posted up: http://www.photographycorner.com/forum

2) Sponsor: FXhome

Green screen photography is proving increasingly popular as the technology becomes more affordable and accessible. FXhome has specialized in powerful green screen software for Mac and PC for almost a decade, with the new PhotoKey 3 series aimed specifically at photographers. More information can be found here: http://fxhome.com/products/photo

Working with green screen makes it quick and easy to separate your subjects from the original background and composite them onto a new image. There’s no need to keep a large collection of studio backdrops when the background can be replaced digitally. This can be particularly useful at events, where clients can be presented with a range of options without requiring multiple setups. Green screen also opens up new creative options for photographers interested in any form of digital manipulation. PhotoKey 3 ($149) and PhotoKey 3 Pro ($299) make it easy to process green screen photographs and composite them onto new backgrounds, with comprehensive color filters and effects included for fine tuning the results. PhotoKey 3 Pro also includes a batch processing feature for dealing with high volume photography. The separate PhotoKey 3 Plug-in ($99) integrates the main compositing features into Adobe Photoshop.

All three versions of PhotoKey are available from the FXhome website: http://fxhome.com

8) Back to School

While the flipping the calendar page over from August to September usually signals the unofficial end of summer, it also signifies the beginning of a new school year. While the change-over from December to January is when we change what year we write on our checks, for a lot of us it's the August/September transformation that really feels like the change to a new season. New routines are started (or resumed), and a lazy summer quickly turns into a stressful, busy autumn. With a pile of photos to sort through, combined with a busy schedule, it's easy to let the "taking photos" part of photography slip through the cracks. September turns into October, then you take some photos at Halloween, then November passes, and you're taking photos at Christmas. Come 2011, you realize you only brought out the camera twice since the summer. Don't let that be your story. Schedule some time to get out and take some photos at least a couple of times a month. Trust me, you'll be thankful that you did. You love being behind the camera - somehow you feel relaxed and at home seeing the world through the eye piece and your lens. Don't forget that feeling when autumn gets busy. Go out there and take some photos. Then let us see what you've got - we love looking at photos - especially yours! ;)

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
