White Legs???

First off I realize this is not a great image. The spider was in the direct midday sun and it was difficult getting precise focus because he didn't want to hold still and he is a teensy little thing. But I don't recall seeing a jumping spider before with a black body and white legs. His coloration is unique.

Re: White Legs???

Considering the difficulty you had in setting up the picture, it isn't bad at all! Thanks for sharing! I'll have to check out the jumping spiders around here, seems to me they all have black legs.

Re: White Legs???

Thanks Teal and Jim. I was on my knees getting set up for a flower shot when I saw this little fella walking around on the plant. They only hold still for a split second and seems just as I got focused he moved. And when using flash you can't shoot in burst mode because the flash has to recharge. After shooting this one I saw another jumper on the plant beside me but he was not the same variety. I read last night, but please don't quote me, that there are more varieties of jumping spiders than any other kind with an estimated 4 to 5 thousand. I also yesterday for the first time got my camera to within inches of a tiger beetle but again their bright color in that bright midday sun did not produce an image that I think is worthy of keeping. The reason I went out that time of day is because I was anticipating being in the woods where there is shade but insects do love the sun. Not all was lost I got a good picture of the flower.

Re: White Legs???

It's a very good shot considering the conditions. I'm glad you decided to post it, because I've never seen a white-legged one before.

Also the three little white (sensors?) on its head is unusual.
