Harriet the Great Horned Owl (Zoo Photo)

(not classified as wildlife)

Harriet the Great Horned Owl from the Radical Raptors Flying Display at the Greater Vancouver Zoo. She was calm enough that she posed for me. I have to say, that I'd drive all the way out from Surrey to the Greater Vancouver Zoo in Langley to see the show...every day if I could afford the admission every time. $$$.

Nik Silver Efex Pro/Adobe Lightroom 6.

Re: Harriet the Great Horned Owl (Zoo Photo)

I don't know what's going on with Google Photos...it gives me partial URLs. I have to post it to my blog in order to locate the FULL URL. Does this work?

Perhaps I should reduce the "noise" a bit. but I think it might make the fine detail on the feathers a bit soft.

Re: Harriet the Great Horned Owl (Zoo Photo)

Wow that jumps right out at you. I would play around a bit with noise reduction and see what you get. I think today's noise filters do much more to preserve detail. You may also try creating a duplicate layer, apply NR and then mask off the areas you do not wish it applied.

Its similar to what I have been doing with motion blur in PS. The trick is more than just the masking...its in the blending options as well to get it to look seamless.

Does Nik have the same option or does it just apply it to the photo?

In PS it does...not sure about elements. Basically you create a separate layer for the nik filter and add a layer mask

Set brush opacity to 100% and white reveals black conceals. Once you are done with your mask it should have NR applied only in what you have masked.
