Eagle with supper, act II (6)

Here's the second half of the story of the eagle and the coot (a couple of these may be a bit gruesome for the faint of heart)... The eagle was enjoying its meal when a second eagle, not shown, appeared and started circling the platform. The first eagle, not wanting to give up or share its meal, decided to take the rest of the coot "to go", and hastily departed. It seemed a bit unsure of its grip on dinner, though, and had to double-check to make sure everything was secure as it flew away... These images, along with the first 6 posted earlier, were all shot from between 75 and 150 yards away in low-contrast conditions, so the sharpness isn't as good as I'd really like, but it's always fun to capture nature in action...

Wonderful follow up. How long did it take for all of this to happen ?

Along these lines, there is a video taken in Wisconsin of an eagle drowning a fawn that was swimming in a lake. The eagle just dove on it and held it under until it drowned and then fed on it for a couple of days. I don't have the link but you should be able to google it. Nature is fascinating.

Thanks, Nod. The whole thing took maybe 10 minutes from the eagle's first appearance with the coot till it grabbed the remains and flew off.
