1) Times, They Are A Changin'

If you've been hanging around the Corner over the past week, you've seen some changes. Basically, all we've done is upgraded our forum software for both security reasons, and to add a couple little extra features (all of which are not active yet, so there will be more to come...). While most of the changes are hardly noticeable, poke around the Corner to see if you can find what's different. A couple changes of note are:
* Hidden Polls: From now on, all the contests will have hidden polls, which means you won't be able to see the result of the poll until it has closed. This should help to prevent voting based on the influence of others.
* Email Notifications: Now, when you receive an email notification, it has the post/PM content in the email.
* Time Changes: Instead of showing you the time of the last post in a thread/forum, you now see time passage (i.e. instead of "September 13th, 2006 1:23pm" you see "3 days ago"
* Keep your eye out for more and post them up here: http://www.photographycorner.com/for...ad.php?t=43835

2) Sponsor: The Big Photographic Directory

So, you've finally jumped on the wagon and put together a site for your photography. You've put up your best work, emailed a link to your family and friends, and even put a link up in your sig at the Corner, but still hardly anyone is visiting. Hmmm. Well, Big Poster Prints has now put together "The Big Photographic Directory" just for people like you. You can put up a link to your photography blog, gallery, whatever - as long as it's a photography-related site, you're good to go - Instant Traffic to your photography site. Oh, and did I mention it's FREE? Darn Tootin'! Click the link, add your site: http://www.digitalphotographposters.co.uk/links/

3) More Changes Are A Comin'

Just when you thought the upgrades were done, well..., you're wrong, they're not. Over the next month or so, there will be some huge changes happening around the Corner. From a different URL structure (if you don't know what that means, don't worry about it), to some neat Social Bookmarking features, to a, *gasp* Member Photo Gallery. That's right, you heard it here first - EVERY MEMBER OF PHOTOGRAPHYCORNER WILL BE GETTING A PHOTO GALLERY RIGHT HERE ON THE CORNER! Now, all the logistics haven't been worked out, but this could be implemented this month still. Now, with these new galleries, the Photo Sharing Corner, Feedback Corner, and Critiques Corner are going to get a little shuffle. I'll send out a quick note to everyone when the Photo Galleries are launched, so you can all log in and give them a test drive. There will, of course, be a FREE option for all members, but there will also be several other upgradeable options for Premiere Members, including some HUGE benefits for current Premiere Members. Whether you are currently a Premiere Member, or you're thinking about becoming one, make sure you read the next section of the newsletter.

4) Premiere Membership Changes?

For almost 2 years now, we've had Premiere Members around the Corner. For those of you unfamiliar with Premiere Membership, take a quick read through here: http://www.photographycorner.com/premiere-membership Now currently, a minimum donation of $10 gets you into the Premiere Corner, participating in the Premiere Projects, and all the other good stuff listed on that page. A minimum donation of $25 gets you all that stuff plus some neat extras (like those orange rank icons and custom ranks you see on some people's profiles). Soon, however, with the addition of the Corner Galleries (mentioned above), some of this will change. We will continue to have 2 levels of Premiere Membership, but the cost is changing from a lifetime donation, to a yearly subscription. That being said, everyone that has upgraded to a Premiere Member before this transition takes place, will be "grand-fathered" with a lifetime membership BUT at the level you already are at. If you have questions about all the details, feel free to PM me or send me an email, but basically what that means is, if you want to get a deal on becoming a Premiere Member, you've got a couple of weeks to do it, otherwise expect the cost of Premiere Membership to jump in the next couple of weeks. You will still be able to buy a lifetime membership (or a yearly subscription), but the cost will be significantly higher (but of course, you will have the added benefits of the extra gallery options to be named at a later date). Oh, you want the link again? Sure, here it is: http://www.photographycorner.com/premiere-membership You've got at least a week or two (maybe less, maybe more) before this happens, so don't sit on it too long.

5) What Are People Saying About the Corner

You love the Corner. Your friends love the Corner. But what about the rest of the people out there? Ever wonder what they think? 7) Can You Handle the Truth, er..., Changes?

After finishing (almost) writing this newsletter, there seems to be a theme: change. Did you pick up on that? "They" (don't ask me who) say that one human year equals 21 computer years (just like for 1 human year = 7 dogs years). That means PhotographyCorner is in it's 50's already. Yikes! Over the next 2-4 computer years, we'll be going through a lot more changes around the Corner - Imagine what it will be like when we turn 100! Change is usually a good thing, but it always takes some people some time to adjust (remember when we redid the Corner last November?). Again, these new changes are for the better, but they will take some getting used to. We have more than 10 moderators that will be around to help you figure it all out (and don't forget about the other almost 8,000 members that can help, too!). So if/when you log into the Corner and things don't look the same, don't worry, you'll figure it out. Change is Good. Change starts with the letter "C", Corner starts with the letter "C", Computers start with the letter "C", Camera starts with the letter "C", Cotton Candy starts with the letter "C" (x2). See. It's all good.

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
