Pairs

I got a few pictures during my walk around the San Diego Zoo on Sunday that almost seem to make up a theme - pairs.

First off, a pair of Malayan tigers - the almost-10-month old cubs, Christopher and Conner.

Next up, a pair of rock hyrax. These guys always have the coolest look on their faces.

Speaking of faces - I never did get to see these zebras' faces. But, as I mentioned in my blog post, I wasn't about to leave with nothing.

There are a few more on my blog.

Re: Pairs

Frank, your pictures from the zoo are always amazing! They look like you are inside the compound with the animals.

If I were the sarcastic sort I'd imagine that last one might be used for some sort of "Inspirational Poster".......

Re: Pairs

Nice series. The last one is what I get every time I go to the Zoo.

Re: Pairs

I think the zebras would make a nice poster!

Re: Pairs

Frank, I like pictures that have yet other pictures within them. I like the "paw on the back" of the 1st but found myself wanting to crop real tight to just the 2 faces stacked atop each other. The 2nd is cute enough but the shadow distracts. The 3rd shot is GREAT, a good example of emphasizing pattern. An alt, not meant as better but rather just an alternative is to further lessen emphasis on the animal itself, ie their whole rear ends, and just go more abstract! Nice lighting BTW.

Re: Pairs

Thanks Russ, nice ideas on the closer crops. I tried something similar with the zebras. Only thing is that since I was shooting my 300/4 almost wide open at f/4.5 I didn't get much depth of field, so the further zebra is a bit soft in the focus. The more I crop the more it's noticeable - as in the version below. I did up the contrast a bit more here, makes it a little more abstract.
