1) Photo Galleries for the Corner

After eons and eons of waiting, PhotographyCorner finally has photo galleries (you would have thought they would have been around sooner, seeing that the Corner is a photography site...). If you haven't checked them out yet, pause for a couple of minutes and visit them: http://www.photographycorner.com/galleries We're still doing some tweaking with them (like fixing some of the buttons and making it a little more user friendly), but feel free to jump in and start playing around. You can upload photos to the Member Galleries (think: group galleries), or you can create your own albums (even private albums) and upload your photographs there. You can even send your photos as e-Cards to friends and family (what a great way to tell people about the Corner, too!). We'll be going over some of the other points about the Corner Photo Galleries a little ways down in section 4 (How Do I Use the Galleries). With the introduction of the Corner Photo Galleries, we've also restructured the Premiere Membership program. Premiere Members get extra perks in the new galleries (like more disk space, and the ability to upload larger photos). If you're interested in becoming a Premiere Member, check out our new Premiere Membership page here: http://www.photographycorner.com/premiere-membership

2) Sponsor: ProPics Express

ProPics Express is one of the leading sponsors of the Corner throughout the Fall and Winter. You may have already seen their contest sponsorships along with their banners floating around the site, too. ProPics Express has already given out $1,000 in gift certificates to Photograph of the Month and Contest Corner Challenges winners, with THOUSANDS more to go over the next couple of contests. Now, that's all find and dandy, but what IS ProPics Express? Well, they're a full-service online digital photo lab that services both the professional photographer, and the advanced photo enthusiast. All of their photographic products are individually color-corrected, and then printed on Kodak professional paper (one of the few online labs in the world that prints all output on pro papers). Their print sizes range from small wallet-sized prints to 20x30 prints. In addition, they have their own frame division (HardWood Frames, Inc), so you can get the perfect frame from them as well. Now, if that weren't enough, they also offer items such as calendars, greeting cards and photobooks (with other great Christmas present ideas on the way...hint, hint). With competitive pricing, and with most items shipping the SAME DAY the order is received, there's no doubt that ProPics Express is the online photo finishing of choice for the photo enthusiast. 3) The Corner Calendar

Although the link to the Corner Calendar has sat in the menu bar at the top of the forum for over a year, I bet not many of you have bothered to go take a look in there (except maybe on your birthday to see who else has the same birthday as you!). Well, to be quite honest, there hasn't been much of a reason to check out the Corner Calendar... until now! When you go to the Corner Calendar (link: http://www.photographycorner.com/forum/calendar.php ), you will now see all sorts of PhotographyCorner-related events listed in there (through the end of 2007!): From dates when the monthly newsletter will be coming out, to when the next CCC will be announced, to PotM voting and all sorts of other great stuff. Never again will you have an excuse to not getting a CCC entry in on time, or for forgetting to vote for the PotM. You can even set a reminder for yourself for each event from 1 hour to 3 days in advance! The events are also listed at the bottom of the main forum page. You'll never have to ask when the next Contest Corner Challenge will start, or when the winner will be announced - it's all listed in the Corner Calendar. Keep checking back, though, as new events will be updated and listed often!

4) How Do I Use the Galleries?

New software can be intimidating even to the most experienced computer users. Obviously the Corner Galleries will take some getting used to. Try to think of the new Corner Photo Galleries as the "new" Photo Sharing Corner. You can post up photos, and people can browse through and comment on them. The Corner Photo Galleries let you do so much more, though. From rating photos, to adding photos to albums, and even sending out e-Cards. We've put together some mini-tutorials (thanks Erik B.!) to help you get started (look for more in the next couple of days as well):
How to Upload Photos to the Galleries: http://www.photographycorner.com/for...ad.php?t=48217
How to Create Your Own Album: http://www.photographycorner.com/for...ad.php?t=48216

5) Gallery Goals

Now that you know how to use the galleries, I want everyone to dive right in and get using them! So let's set some goals for the Corner Photo Galleries. As I type this, there are almost 1,600 photos uploaded to the galleries, with over 400 comments, and over 100,000 views. By the end of the year (December 31st - less than 6 weeks away), let's get over 10,000 photos uploaded, with more than 10,000 comments, and over 1 MILLION views. I'll be uploading all the Premiere Project Galleries, Contest Corner Challenges and Photograph of the Month photos to the Corner Photo Galleries over the next week or two, so that should add close to 1,000 photographs right there. If we can get to these goals, perhaps Santa Claus ( http://www.photographycorner.com/forum/member.php?u=571 ) will bring us something extra special this Christmas.

7) Countdown to Christmas

It just sneaks up on you, eh? One minute the World Series is finishing and hockey is starting, the next minute, they're playing Christmas carols in the malls. Where did Fall go? In just over a month (Yikes!!), I'll be heading home (Vancouver, BC, Canada) for Christmas. It will be the first Christmas I've spent with my family "out west" in YEARS, and I am SO looking forward to it. Christmas in Vancouver, then down to California for a couple of weeks. It'll be nice to "get away." But don't worry, I'm bring the Corner with me. Newsletters won't be missed & neither will PotM voting or any other such things. In fact, keep your eyes and ears peeled for a HUGE announcement coming mid-December. And I'm not talking elephant huge, I'm talking THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN PRIZES huge. But, you'll just have to wait to find out more. Don't stray too far from the Corner, though - you wouldn't want to miss anything.

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
