Snowy Owl

I braved some rather cold conditions at about 10-15 degrees today to capture a couple of images of a very elusive Snowy Owl.

Re: Snowy Owl

I really like the first shot. The rows of grass just add a nice pattern leading to the owl. My only nit would be that it seems a bit dark.

Nice little male you found there! I like the light on the second one.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I think I may have underexposed the second one a bit in the processing. I'll have to play around with that a bit more.

Yes it's a grape vineyard as we live in wine country here.

84? Hmmm. Was a bit warmer here today at maybe about 18. It has been great ice wine weather though.

Re: Snowy Owl

I rather like the second shot. The reason is that the snowy owl is nice and white, and clearly the subject of the photo. It's white enough to overcome the distracting background. However, the background is distracting.

In the first, I really like the leading lines of the rows of plants. The owl is clearly the sobject here, but only because there are no other distractions. Like Clark said, the whole shot looks underexposed. The snowy owl here, though, looks more like a gray owl. I really think this shot has the most potential. Very nice.

Re: Snowy Owl

Reworked the exposure a bit but still not sure if I'm totally happy but definitely an improvement.

Re: Snowy Owl

Like Kenny Bostick in "The Big Year," the Snowy Owl has eluded me. But it is always nice to see others who have success.

Nice photos.
