Piomeer, Ca., "Image heavy"

I see that there is nobody home anymore here but the door is still unlocked and the lights are barely on anymore.

Here are some photos to share with anyone who still checks in once in a while. We took a day trip to the desert last Sunday as a get away from all the rain we've been getting. The destination was the Joshua Tree National park, east of Palm Springs, Ca. A friend told us about the town of Pioneer so we went there first. It seems that this town was built as a movie prop in the 50's where a number of Gene Autry and other western movies were shot. It is still quite a place to see and take photographs at. The bonus is a fabulous Restaurant called "Pappy and Harriet's Palace". The food alone was worth the trip. Here are some shots taken at Pioneer Town and also some from the Joshua Tree park. I hope someone can enjoy the shots and be tempted to visit the area.

Comments are always welcome! Thanks for looking. And there is no problem if you want to use them for your own use.

Thanks Guys, it was a very nice day to be out there. Do you think that Studebaker could be fixed?

Fun Set Orv and one area in your series looked like the Alabama Hills where they filmed many "B" cowboy Saturday matinee double feature movies that I frequented with my friends back in the late 40's & early 50's...

Re: Piomeer, Ca., "Image heavy"

Thanks Jerry, I thought this site could use a few new things for the looky loo's to check out.
If you do a search for Pioneertown, you can find out the history of it. Not to be confused with Pioneer, Ca.
It was built in the 40's as a movie set, by Roy Rodgers and others who wanted a place to shoot some of their movies at and had houses that the actors could actually live there while shooting. Some of the shows that used the set were The Cisco Kid, Judge Roy Bean, Gene Autry and others. Now the shops have some neat gift shops and a leather crafter who makes hand made saddles. Plus the restaurant has some great food.

Re: Piomeer, Ca., "Image heavy"

Orv, I believe posting this set in the "Gallery" will draw a lot more lookee-loo's and possibly draw a few more people onto the Corner. Anything I post in the Forums comes from posts/links in the Gallery plus they get more looks there.

Re: Piomeer, Ca., "Image heavy"

That's probably a good idea. I have rarely looked in the gallery's and never set one up. Not sure even how to.

I see you posted a few of these in the Gallery, and commented... Always felt you attract more bees with a field of flowers (my metaphor for the gallery area) where you can chose which flower you want to land on. Good to see you there.
