A rare visitor!

Got a chance to photograph a very rare visitor to Washington yesterday... a friend called me and said she had what looked like a young male hooded oriole in her yard. Since hooded orioles almost never get farther north than California or Nevada, I grabbed my camera and drove the 35 miles through Seattle-area traffic at 3:00 PM (ugh!) to see it. Sure enough, it was a yearling male hooded oriole... only the 11th sighting ever in Washington state! I got about a hundred photos of it, and a good thing I got it when I did, too... she called me late this afternoon to say it seemed to have moved on... she hadn't seen it all day.
