Dyar House

The Dyar house was built in 1923 and is said to have been made from the same hand-cut native stone.

This house was built with two-stories and measured 60X35'. There were six bedrooms upstairs and two full baths on either end of the hallway that ran the length of the home.
The basement contained a wood burning furnace and the heat was pumped into each room through vents. An electric generating plant was built alongside the home as was a two-car garage with accommodations for their driver as it is said that the Dyars did not drive.
The family entertained while at the ranch. Guests included such celebrities as Will Rogers and actor Leo Carrillo.

The family made an arrangement with the State to donate the house and surrounding land which became Cuyamaca State Park. The house served as a bunk house for a while and then a museum and visitor center until the 2003 Cedar Fire which has utterly destroyed all the the frame. The walls only remain standing because of the numerous beams added to its interior to hold the walls up.

The small white square thing are where the beams are braced to hold the walls up.

The interior: the floors collapsed during the fire

This same fire also destroyed other historic residence throughout the county. It would be nice to see an effort to perhaps to restore or perhaps rebuild with the same floor plan and construction.
