Gorgeous location! Love the snow on the shoreline.

Re: Emerald Lake

Nice scene Clark but I think the horizon is off a bit. Good coloring and love the clouds and deep sky. The logs in the lake always help to add dimension to the image too. Have you thought about carrying a chain saw with you to remove trees and branches? I remember sometime ago, somewhere, someone was always talking about that but I can't remember.

Re: Emerald Lake

I had an instructor who mentioned I should carry a broom to sweep away footprints.

Its possible the horizon is off a little as it was handheld. I was using the trees as a vertical reference as the lake is curved in the back an not straight.

Re: Emerald Lake

Agiledogs, I think I'm in agreement with your opinion that the lake shore-line is curved as opposed to the horizon being tilted (you did a really good job keeping the camera level hand-held). Like how both the log and the clouds draw the eye-line towards the ragged mountain peaks. But I'm wondering if the tree to the left hand side could have been included in the framing to create depth, but then the log creates depth as well...

I would really like to see a "harsh contrast b&w" of this shot, but then again, that's my preferences...getting in the way.

Re: Emerald Lake

Not without a wide lens. I only have to 28mm, 24 and I would have the tree. My main objective though was to have that diagonal log fully included.

BW using Trix 400 + Red filter (Dxo Labs filmpack 5 for conversion.) The nice thing about BW it seems to hide the tree on the right better

Re: Emerald Lake

BEAUTIFUL! Agiledogs. Love it. And it brings out the ripples in the lake as well.

I don't know what it is about black & white, but it has me hooked.

Re: Emerald Lake

As far as the tree on the left goes, including it might have gotten some of the tree to it's left as well.
How wide do you go?
But say you do want to go wider but your lens won't do it.
Why not stitch two frames together?
You don't have to go full tilt panorama to use the technique.

Re: Emerald Lake

Well I only had 28mm. To do it as a pano would actually require being a mosaic as the trees to the left and the right side extend out the top of the frame. I tried to balance the left half with the right half
