Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC

For those of you who like wildlife but have been stupefied by the price of 600mm supertelephotos (f/4, I mean). Here comes a low-cost alternative. It's still 4 digits, however, the price is $1,097.00 or thereabouts, USD. The Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC

For those of you who've always wanted 600mm, this is an affordable 600mm though slower than f/4, however those who know what to do with the lens can easily create some stunning images with it.

Some images taken with the lens were as follows:

Not bad for a slightly over $1,000.00 lens. Worth looking at, I'd suspect. My son is actually looking into getting this lens.

Re: Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC

I was just looking at this lens at B&H yesterday. A coworker's son is a baseball player and she was asking me about lens choices for extra reach as the fields get bigger and bleachers farther away (he's starting high school this year).

Re: Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC

Thank You Animal. This is probably my next big purchase. I've been looking for a lens to take my MC pictures and get some of the corners closer and this might be the alternative. I'll have to rent it to see how well it works first before I decide but this is a good price for a 600mm lens. Thanks.

Re: Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC

I've been considering this lens for a while as well. I'd always prefer a faster lens, but since long telephoto is fairly rare for me, the price is right--as long as image quality is good.

That is why I'd like to rent it first to see how IQ is. If it works for my MC photography then I would be happy.

Re: Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC

My oldest son has become an avid wildlife photographer, so outside of spending close to $10,000 for a 600/4 (which I don't have - I'm still paying off my AF-S II 600/4 D IF-ED) this may be the best possible alternative for him. He's always asking to come along on the shoots and he's been managing well with the 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII+TC-20EIII combo, so the Tamron may be the next step up for him to get out to at least 600mm.

Yep, as with any lens purchase, best to "try before you buy".
