Happy Solstice

Hiked up Cowles Mtn to a special viewing area for the Solstice Sunrise. What a great morning.

Re: Happy Solstice

Sweet shot! Great to know that from now until June the northern hemisphere is adding daylight on a daily basis.....

Re: Happy Solstice

Here in the PNW we like to complain that the winter solstice, ie longest night, starts in late October until late March....in good years....before the sun reappears!

Nice capture Clark. I like the diffraction of the sun's rays over the ridge top and the subtle tonal variation in the hills near to far. Clean composition. Did you hike up the day before and camp or hike up EARLY AM...in the dark? How far/high?

Re: Happy Solstice

The area is only about a mile up the trail and about 100 yards off of it. We were led by a group called the Cayoneers of San Diego early in the AM whoe set a much faster pace than I am used to, but the view was incredible.

I think next year I want to be about 50 yards to my right to have the peak bisecting the sun.
