Swamp Magic

The past year I've been spending almost all of my time back in the past with black and white film stuff. Now that I'm back on familiar grounds with film and especially large format cameras, I think I'll attain a balance with that and my DSLRs again.

I bought a beautiful Pentax K3 last year and have hardly used it, so I took it out to the beaver swamp on Telachik Creek, about halfway between Prince George and Vanderhoof. Took a few shots, and two I liked I post here.

Pentax K3, Pentax 77mm f1.8 Limited lens, ISO 200, 1/125 at f11 for the first shot, and 1/125th at f8 for the second. I like a short telephoto for much of my landscape work because of it's selectivity. I just bought a 400mm Fujinon f8 in large format, which is about like a 90mm lens on a 35mm, for the same reason. I'll post some shots with it in the future.

Edit: I'm very frustrated posting here. My shots look great on my monitor and on PBase. Here, they're washed out and soft. Is there something here that I'm missing? The difference is maybe 30%. The top shot is 800 dpi horizontally. The bottom shot is 600 dpi. They look horrible here. I've had nothing but trouble posting lately in this forum and I'm very frustrated and almost embarrassed. I've printed both of these and they're TACK SHARP and have a normal color balance. The bottom shot here is too yellow. But not elsewhere!!! The file is the same (printed full file) and I'm certainly NOT going to alter my processing just to post here. PS yes, the water is that brown. It's a swamp.

Thanks for looking in

Re: Swamp Magic

Hi Gord,
Like Marty said these are 2 wonderful shots.

Can you give me an idea of your work flow from image an image format perspective? The reason I am asking is I looked at your images via pbase from the links you posted in this forum and I am seeing about the same quality level as what is posted here between pbase and this site. One alternative to try would be to either upload to a local gallery here and display or add an image as an attachment just to see if there are quality differences in how the images are displayed.

Re: Swamp Magic

Thanks for the positive vibes, guys. I think I can trace the problem to the monitor I've been working with . . . . I'll post some more over the next few days and let's go from there.

Re: Swamp Magic

The monitor was very dim. I simply brightened it and it seems to work better with respect to having me see the color balance better. Having only one eye sometimes causes me problems with respect to brightness.

Re: Swamp Magic

I like them both Gordo, but have no idea the problem you're having, but frequently have similar issues anywhere I post.

Re: Swamp Magic

The rough, cluttered and menacing feel of the first one makes me think if someone fell in there they would never come out. Nice shot.
