I'm sure it will drop in price by more than half after the first 6 months to a year... I think 17mp is a little overkill...

I hope not... it gets to a point where it's just gimmicky, ya know? How many people are going to blow up photos that big? I'm pretty sure it will level off before it gets too out of hand.

In the future a 17mp picture will look like a 640X480 picture does now, on the monitors. And the way things are printed so the extra detail can be there. Or it could be an interactive picture where its an electronic frame and it lets you zoom in and out of the picture.

Who knows what the future will hold. :0).

And in comparison to film, 35mm is around 7mp, medium format I would assume is around 30mp and large format could be up to a few hundred mp, but no one says medium format is over kill. :0). At least for what its used for.

Yeah, I suppose resolution (monitors, TVs, etc) will eventually improve... but, meh. To many MP's for me for now at least (especially with an $8k price tag!)

Welcome to the Corner, Mark!

Well the $8k price will drop. 1mp cameras use to be more than that at one point I would imagine. :0).
