The writer creates from a blank page. The painter creates from a blank canvas. The photographer has to find a subject and pull art from it.
Well put, well put.

I started painting about 3 months ago. I dont feel like Im very good, but Ive had many people ask me how long ive painted for, and if the only thing Ive done is for sale lol.

Starting that whole process has lead me to believe that it is harder to paint because you must (A) Posess the skill to do so, (B) Spend the amount of time that is needed to finish up a painting and (C) once it is complete there is only one.

It is easier to spend the amount of time you would painting, out there taking photographs, and im pretty sure youd be able to catch a couple of great images. Would you be able to sell it - Most probably, is it a one of a kind - not if youve reprinted and that particular print is popular.

Saying all of that, I dont feel like photography is a second class citizen, but I can understand why some people would.

Iwill agree that it's harder to paint than it is to take a picture, for me at least. Why? Because I don't have the tpye of hand coordination necessary to paint. People can barely read my handwriting!

But I'd be willing to bet that there are some painters that would find it easier to paint than to photograph. In general, tho, I'd say it was easier for a good painter to photograph than the other way around, just due to their experience with composition

Good luck with your painting, Kara. I'll bet that as your painting grows, your photography will, also. Painting really hones the framing/compositional skills.
