Tim, is it your personal way to divide digital cameras into these 3 groups or is it official?

I'm not sure that it's official, but it's more or less then general idea.

My powershot A70 allows for manual control, aperture priority setting, exposure compensation, and some other nice features. Would this place it in the semi-pro category even though it is only 3.2 MP?

My rebel XT offers far more control but I am not a pro, though maybe I wish I was.

Only thing I'd change in the article is the price of DSLR fromm 1,000. Granted the Rebel XT isn't the 10d or 20d. Memory serves me right you can also get some of the older model Nikons for around 1,000 body only.

Well I think that it is a little too general. the camera I just got is a Panasonic Lumix FZ-30s. It is not a DSLR but it is a 12x Optical, 8 MP camera with a manual zoom ring as well as a manual focus focus ring. It is easily the size of the DLSRs like the Rebel XT and Nikon D50. I don't know much about it pictures yet because it is only a few days old but I am getting there. It runs between $500-$600 dollarsand has gotten some good reviews at some websites. So what cateogry would it fall under?

PhotosNFun: it would fall under the semi-pro digital. You have the manual functions to "get" the picture you want. It's not a point-n-shoot. And unless it has the mirror that moves out of the way, it's not DSLR.

K, I didn't write the article, but it is quite general... but it at least gives you a general idea of what goes where.

A SLR camera (digital) will be my next choice of camera. Maybe in 4 months I will have one... I sure hope so..
