1) Happy New Year!

Welcome to Volume 3, Issue 1 of the PhotographyCorner.com Newsletter. If this is your first newsletter, we send one out every month around the middle of each month to keep you updated with the on-goings around the Corner. I can't believe we're into 2006 already! PhotographyCorner started less than 2 years ago in 2004, and after 1 year, had grown to over 1,000 members with almost 50,000 posts. Now, almost a year later, we're approaching 6,000 members with over 200,000 posts!!! Imagine where we'll be by this time next year! Thanks to all the active members and mods who have helped make this place possible - an expansive photography resource built by, and for, photographers all over the world. Raise your glasses and let's toast to another great year around the Corner! *clink*

2) Sponsor: Waller & Son

The Corner has some great sponsors already lined up for 2006, and one of our main supporters is W. Waller & Son, Inc., a small New England company dedicated to creating and supplying a great line of photography and sporting bags. Waller & Son will be sponsoring every Photograph of the Month contest throughout 2006 and will be giving away some great photography bags as prizes throughout the year! Keep your eye out for a review of their camera Field Bag in the Photography Resource Center coming soon. With some more camera bags and accessories coming available soon, check out their website for some of the bags they currently have available: http://www.wallerandson.com/photo_bags.htm

3) News, Awards and Resources

If you're new to the site, or even if you're a daily visitor, it's sometimes easy to get lost when navigating your way around the Corner. Here are a couple of places you should make sure you check out when you have a chance.

Photography News: Everyday, our "Corner Reporter" brings us all the latest photography news from around the web. Everything from camera reviews, to photography events happening all over the world. To get your fill of photography news, check out: http://www.photographycorner.com/for...splay.php?f=20

Photography Awards: Ever wonder what those little medal-looking things are next to some people's names on the forum? Those are awards that they have received around the Corner. Some of them are for winning contests like the Photograph of the Month Contest or a Contest Corner Challenge, while some of them are Commitment Awards for reaching 1000, 2000 and even 5000 posts around the Corner. There are also Contributor Awards given to those who work on creating content for our Resources Center. For more info about the awards currently given out around the Corner, check out: http://www.photographycorner.com/forum/awards.php

Photography Resources: While the forum is definitely the most utilized section of PhotographyCorner, our Resources Center, with over 65 articles and tutorials available already (and we're adding more monthly - see the Noteworthy Notables section below!) and over 250 sites listed in our directory, the PhotographyCorner Resource Center is becoming a popular stop for photographers all over the web. Brush up on, or learn new photography tips and tricks here: http://www.photographycorner.com/resources

4) Maintaining the Corner

They say there's no such thing as a free lunch - but that's not true around the Corner. PhotographyCorner is as free a lunch as you can get around the web - access to thousands of useful threads and resources, all FREE. Well, for you at least. While we try to offset the cost associated with running the site with ads placed throughout the site (you do see them, right??!), we also have ways you can directly help support your photography place on the web. You could always become a Premiere Member ( http://www.photographycorner.com/premiere-membership ) and experience some extra perks around the site, or you could order a limited-edition PhotographyCorner Pen & Keychain set - less than 2 dozen left ( http://www.photographycorner.com/pen-and-keychain ) or, last month we opened the PhotographyCorner clothing store on cafepress - order yourself a PhotographyCorner hat, t-shirt, mug, or even a thong! Visit http://www.cafepress.com/photocorner to see the Corner line of clothing

5) Contest Corner Challenge #19: Technology Photography

7) Keep On Snappin' Those Photos

The winter time can sometimes be a discouraging time for photographers - the dullness of the weather, animals gone into hiding, the dullness of the weather, the realization that summer is still such a long time away, your credit card bill with that new lens that you splurged on over the holidays, oh, and did I mention the dullness of the weather? One way to stretch yourself as a photographer is to keep snapping those photos even when the "stuff" you like to photograph isn't around. Make yourself go find something to photograph. Take shots of things you never would have photographed before. Stretch your photographic talents and skills. If you're in the north, take some photos out in the snow and work on tough-exposure situations, if you're lucky enough to not have the icky white stuff all over the place, go for a walk to a place or down a road you've never been before. You'll be surprised at all the neat stuff that is just begging to be photographed. If you're really stuck in a rut, try entering the Contest Corner Challenges or, if you're a Premiere Member, take a look through the bi-weekly Photography Projects and try to get them all complete. And whatever you do, don't forget to stop by the Corner to share your photographs, get help with your techniques, and to help others (and yourself) improve as photographers. That's what the Corner is all about.

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
