1) Welcome to the Corner!

One of the great things about PhotographyCorner is the great sense of community we have here. Not only is this a place to share, teach and learn everything photography, but we're also a great big family who care and support each other. When a new member joins the fold (and we average more than 10 new members/day!), make sure you welcome them when they post in the Member Introductions forum. It not only makes new members feel welcome to the community, but also shows just how active and vibrant a community we have. So next time you're on the Corner, make sure you drop by and welcome all the newbies. We welcomed you, didn't we?

2) Sponsor: Lensbabies

You may have noticed the recent review ( http://www.photographycorner.com/pro...s/lensbaby-2-0 ). You may also have noticed the February Photograph of the Month sponsorship ( http://www.photographycorner.com/pho...06/02/smithers ). If you've been around the Corner lately, there's no way you could have missed the great flash banner ads around the site. Lensbabies is a great sponsor of PhotographyCorner. "What's a Lensbaby?" you ask. You mean you haven't heard? Winner's of numerous awards, including the Professional Photographer's 2004 Hot 1 Awards (which honor the most outstanding products for the professional photography market), Lensbaby is a selective focus lens that creates images like those produced by a Holga film camera, but works with your digital SLR. Whether used to capture the retro feel of yesterdays photography or used to embrace a unique way to express creativity in-camera as opposed to creativity in the digital darkroom, Lensbaby 2.0 is worth every penny. Read the review (link above), then visit their site for ordering info. ( http://www.lensbabies.com )

3) What is PotM and How Does it Work?

I'm sure you've seen it around the site, or even in the newsletters that we send out every month. PotM (acronym for Photograph of the Month) is a contest we hold on the Corner, yup, you guessed it, every month! If you're not quite sure how the whole process works, read on, 'cause I'm going to tell you. First, 7 days before the end of each month, Premiere Members can start to nominate photographs for the PotM for the following month. Throughout the month, Premiere Members take note of spectacular photos and post them in the PotM Nominations forum (you need to be a Premiere Member to access that forum, and, thus, nominate photographs). After a month has passed, I collect and go through the nominations, adding and removing photographs from the nomination list (based on a top-secret formula that will go with me to my grave). Then, 7 days before the end of the month (usually to the minute, Eastern Standard Time), the nominations are posted in the Photograph of the Month forum. Every member of the site has the opportunity to vote on what photo they think deserves the honor of being chosen as a PhotographyCorner Photograph of the Month. By midnight, on the last day of the month, the poll closes and the votes are counted. Then, the next day, the winner is announced, the photo is displayed on the main page of the Corner, the winner is showered with prizes and accolades, etc. etc. So, there you have it, and now you know. If you want to get in on the action, you know what you have to do (*hint* http://www.photographycorner.com/premiere-membership *hint*).

4) The PhotographyCorner Directory

Did you even know we had a Photography Directory on the Corner? If you didn't, how did you miss it? There's a great big tab at the top of every page that says "Directory" on it! Geez. Pay attention, eh? Ok, well first thing first. Go check it out. Even if you've seen it before, humor me for a couple of minutes and go browse through it. Look, I'll even give you think link right from the newsletter: http://www.photographycorner.com/directory Now you have no excuse to not check it out.

Ok, have you taken a look? What do you think? Good, bad, ugly, useful, useless, well-organized, organized more poorly than your photos? One of the parts of the site that we will be working on over the next couple of months is building up the directory, but we want to make a USEFUL directory for our members. What do you want to see in there? How can we make it more useful for you? We want your feedback. Conveniently, we've set up a thread just for that feedback. Let us know what you think - (and I mean you as well, $username) Here's the thread: http://www.photographycorner.com/for...ad.php?t=27291 Thanks in advance!

5) Contest Corner Challenge #20: Indoor Games

Entries are due by February 27th, 2006. There's lots of time for this contest - over 3 weeks from when it was first announced (i.e. no excuses for not getting a photo in). CCC#20 is being sponsored by Kiesel Bags. Several members have already won a bag from Kiesel Bags and they love them. I own one myself. If you don't know how good these bags are, check out our review of their TZ600: http://www.photographycorner.com/pro...by-kiesel-bags - Now, "Let the Games Begin!"

6) "Noteworthy Notables"

In addition to being a place to critique and be critiqued, to get and give feedback, and to view and share photos, PhotographyCorner also is a place to discuss photography-related issues, as well as teach and learn with other photographers. 7) The Part at the End

I couldn't think of a good title for this section. It's tough coming up with new ways to say "this is the last section of the newsletter, I promise". I really enjoy writing these newsletters, though, and I do hope you enjoy reading them. Even if you can't stop by the Corner daily (and I have to admit, there is the occasional day that I don't even have a chance to stop by, so don't feel bad), these newsletters are a great way to keep yourself updated with the on-goings of the Corner.

This place continues to grow and grow. Sure, we'll have growing pains, but this community is turning into one of the premiere photography communities on the Internet. Look for some more (more you say?) additions to the site in the next couple of months, including a comprehensive Photography Glossary (and some other neat things that you'll just have to wait for). If you have suggestions for what you want to see around the Corner, feel free to send me a PM and I'll get back to you, usually within 12 hours. Anyhoo, that's all for this newsletter. Now go back to taking photos, posting photos and talking about photos. That is what we all do, right?

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
