Nature taking back what belongs to it

This is an area of coast near home where Mother Nature is fairly determined to see who is going to win.

The sea defences (sic) keep being built and basically the sea takes it back.

These are fairly sturdy structures which are meant to be defending the coast but as you can see from the other picture of the house on the cliff, this is failing!

This area of coast has seen devastating erosion and a lot of people have actually lost their houses to the sea in the last couple of years and it is not showing any real sign of abating.

So, if you see a house being advertises with a "sea view" think twice!

Any bets who is going to win the battle in the long run??

Andy

Yea, you can slow nature down a bit, but she's very hard to stop once she gets on a roll. Nice captures. Someday the pictures you have will be the only indication of what use to be there.

When you think about the size of Britain, I'm thinking it's going to get a whole lot smaller. Same thing applies on our coastline, moving inwards by centimeters every year..I live about a block from the beach and when those seas rise by 6 metres (as global warming implies) I think I'll be moving house...quite literally. You've depicted this well in these images, andy.

Thanks for that - yup, it's a bit scary when you look at how much is disappearing each year.

That is scary! Now I don't feel as bad for being 400Km from the nearest beach!

Thanks for sharing these intense images - I personally like the first one with the stucture in the sea - like these lines and colors. Well captured.

Thanks faisal - 400km??? I don't think you are in any danger of this happening to your house!!

Plenty of sand eh but no sea?!!

I know the second shot is not technically brilliant but it's kind of there to show what's happening and as a record.
