1) Taking the Time

As the days grow shorter (at least up here in the Northern Hemisphere), it seems like we have less and less time to "do" things. The sun seems to set so early and those great hours after dinner to go outside with your camera start to shrink and shrink, and eventually disappear. With working all day, when are we supposed to go out and make some great photographs? The weekends? Those are already so booked up with the rest of life. It's hard for a lot of photographers to keep up with the photographic pace we kept all summer, taking thousands of photographs per month. When fall sets in, it's hard to take just a couple hundred photographs between now and Christmas, let alone the thousands per month we took during the summer. The key is setting aside some time. It's not like doing the dishes or mowing the lawn. We love taking photographs. It shouldn't be hard to set aside some time to do the thing you love... but sometimes it is. It's dark. It's cold outside. We all have our excuses. This month, let's make sure we take the time for our photography. Your camera will thank you. So will the photographs that you make.

2) Sponsor: SmugMug

If you don't know what "SmugMug" is by now, you must not be visiting the Corner nearly enough. They got some ads running on the site, they're sponsoring contests, giving away prizes, and, of course, there's the new weekly feature on the Corner Blog: SmugMug Corner (http://www.photographycorner.com/blo...mugmug-corner). SmugMug is one of the main sponsors of PhotographyCorner - they make this site possible. SmugMug is devoted to priceless photos. A father and son team founded the company in 2002. Every subscription comes with unlimited storage with no ads surrounding any photo. "White-glove" is the best way to describe SmugMug's customer service. SmugMug believes in taking care of their customers. Real people, real photographers are always available to assist customer's every need 365/24/7 (even on Christmas!). SmugMug provides all the necessary tools and functionality for privacy and security of each priceless photo. For added security each photo is saved multiple times in multiple data centers around the country, making it truly the "Fort Knox" for photos. Now a service like this must cost hundreds of dollars a year, right? Not even close. In fact, just for Corner members, they're now offering a 20% discount off the yearly subscriptions which are as low as $39.95/year. The discount code is GWNW. You can even have a free trial. Check them out: http://www.smugmug.com.

3) The Corner Blog - What Are You Missing?

It's hard to miss. It's one of the main tabs at the top of the site. But for some reason, you just keep missing it. You check it out every once and a while, but it's hard to keep track of it all. Did you know there's a way to subscribe to it? If you have an RSS Reader, you can click here and subscribe: http://feeds.feedburner.com/photographycornerblog If you don't use an RSS Reader, you can get links to the post via email by putting in your email address here: http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/email...?feedId=613064. Now, why would you want to subscribe to the blog? Good question. The blog is filled with all the important goings on around the Corner - from contest announcements, to the new SmugMug Corner interviews, to our own (and very popular!) Corner Member Interviews. In addition, you can keep informed on various events and updates from the world of photography. Whether you're just a casual member of the Corner, or you call the Corner your second home, there's no reason why you shouldn't be reading the Corner on a daily basis. Subscribe today, and find out what you've been missing: http://www.photographycorner.com/blog

4) Interviews

If you've just checked out the Corner Blog, you would have noticed the two new columns in the Corner Blog are the SmugMug Corner and the Corner Member Interviews. Both columns feature various photographers from around the world. Learn their stories, their background, their training and about their equipment. View their photographs and learn tips and tricks they have learned throughout their photographic journey. The SmugMug Corner interviews come out once a week, on Fridays, and feature some of the best photographers using the SmugMug service. The Corner Member Interviews, which are released every couple of weeks, feature some of the most popular Corner photographers, and are among the most popular posts on the blog so far. It's an excellent way to get to know the photographers that you critique and learn from in the forums.

6) "Noteworthy Notables"

For those that are relatively new to the Corner, the Noteworthy Notables have been a steadfast section here in the Corner Newsletter. It gives a brief run-down of the cool threads, new articles and blog posts, and other "worth checking out" stuff that has happened here on the Corner.

7) It's Coming

It's still a couple of months off, but planning is well underway. You know what I'm talking about. The most successful event around the Corner. Ever. The Photograph of the Year contest. Last year, we had hundreds of entries, thousands of votes and hundreds of thousands of visits to the contest. This year, we'll have more entries, more votes and more visitors. We'll also have more and bigger prizes. Last year we had over $14,000 in prizes. Imagine what we have in store for this year. There will be a couple of changes from last years' contest. Make sure you subscribe to the blog to stay informed (1 last plug... hehe). It's coming... and you won't want to miss it!

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
