1) Helping Out

One of the coolest things about PhotographyCorner is the community itself. we have an amazing group of beginner, amateur and professional photographers around the Corner, all willing to help each other out - to become better photographers - and that's really the whole point of the site, isn't it? Sure it's great that we get to enter contests, win prizes, and show off our greatest shots, but when it all comes down to it, we're here to learn from each other to become better photographers. If you've been around the Corner for a while, there are tons of photographers who have improved their photography since joining the Corner. Perhaps you're one of those photographers. Maybe you just bought your first camera when you joined the Corner, and now it's a hobby, or maybe photography was just a hobby when you joined, and now it's a passion, or maybe it was a passion, and now it's a profession. Where ever you are in your photographic journey, you're bound to have given and received help at the Corner. That's what this place is all about. One thing you can do to continue to help around the Corner, is invite more people to the Corner. The more people that are here, the more we can share, learn and grow as photographers. If you know some friends that are into photography, send them an email about the Corner. If you have a website or a blog, why not do a post about the Corner, or even put up a link or banner to the Corner (you can get some pre-made banners here: http://www.photographycorner.com/banners ). For the Corner to continue to grow and flourish, we need to continue to help populate the Corner with more people. 20,000 minds are better than 10,000 after all, right?

2) Sponsor: SmugMug

If you've been hanging around the Corner over the past couple of months, you couldn't help but notice a "Smuggy" presence about the site. There are SmugMug banners floating around, SmugMug is sponsoring a bunch of contests, and a bunch of new members are sporting brand new SmugMug accounts. And of course, who could forget all the cool "SmugMug Corner Interviews" on the Corner Blog every Friday? It's always really interesting to have a deeper look into the mind of another photographer (as well as looking at some great photographs). In addition to all that stuff, SmugMug is also putting on their own contest called "Where In The World Is Smuggy?" with the winner getting a fabulous weekend for two at a luxury resort in California's Napa Valley. Check out all the details here: http://www.smuggy.smugmug.com. If you don't have a SmugMug account yet (what's up with that?), we've got a discount code for Corner members to use - save yourself 20% and use coupon code: GWNW. You even get a free 1-month trial to test the waters. Visit http://www.smugmug.com for more information and to sign up for your free account.

3) Spooky Contest

Every three weeks a new one starts. Every 3 weeks a winner is announced. But no Contest Corner Challenge to date has been as "spooky" as this one. CCC#40: Trick or Treat wants you to photograph anything "Halloweeny." You know, pumpkins, gravestones, ghosts, costumes - anything spooky. The prize, offered by our friends at NodalNinja.com, is a complete NN3 package (valued @ $230!). Ok, I guess the prize isn't that spooky. But you've only got a couple more days to get your entries in. That should at least make you scared. Entries are due by midnight GMT on Monday, October 22nd. For all the details, check out the contest thread: http://urlbrief.com/c8242d

4) Premiere Membership - Why Should I?

You love to the Corner. You're here almost every day. But if you're not a Premiere Member, you're missing out on half the fun. There are a bunch of forums you don't have access to, you don't get to participate in the Premiere Projects and you get less space in the galleries. You're missing out on the orange camera icons, custom user ranking names, and all the inside jokes. By becoming a Premiere Member, not only do you get a bunch of "extras" around the Corner, you're also helping keep the Corner around. Without Premiere Member subscriptions and donations, the Corner might not even exist. If you're interested in making a donation to the Corner, check the bottom, right-hand side of the main page of the site and click on the PayPal button. If you're interested in becoming a Premier Member, visit http://www.photographycorner.com/premiere-membership. If you have any questions about Premiere Membership, feel free to shoot me off a private message (or ask one of the current Premiere Members - they know what you're missing out on), and I'll answer whatever questions or concerns you may have.

5) "Noteworthy Notables"

For those that are relatively new to the Corner, the Noteworthy Notables have been a steadfast section here in the Corner Newsletter. It gives a brief run-down of the cool threads, new articles and blog posts, and other "worth checking out" stuff that has happened here on the Corner.

6) The Like Us, They Really Like Us!

It's true. We're coming close to the end our "advertising drive" for 2007, and it's going really well. We have newsletter sponsorship spots full until the summer of 2008, Photograph of the Month sponsorships until the spring, and more and more CCC's are getting booked. It's pretty exciting. We've got some sweet sponsors (which include some kickass prizes, too) that will be appearing around the Corner over the next couple of months, and that doesn't even include all the sponsors and prizes that will come along with the Photograph of the Year contest that's coming up. It's an exciting time around the Corner (about 45 days until the 2nd Annual Photograph of the Year contest!!). Aren't you glad to be apart of it?

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
