Lighting genius

So I came upon this photographer, bill simone, and thought I'd share with everyone. His site is www.billsimonephotography.com. Besides his processing which in itself is amazing, I love his lighting. Not only for his portraits but for his still life photos as well. How does he do it? I mean, I tell he uses multiple strobes and what-not but I've never accomplished subtleties like he does.

If you read his blog you'll see that there is a very detailed process that goes into his creations not to mention some very high end equipment. Check out dissecting an image in his blog.

Heh, hadn't even noticed there was a blog, thanks for that!

And now I'm an even bigger fan.

I am exhausted just reading it. I thought I put effort into shots when all I was doing was waiting on the light while cajoling volunteer subjects to let me take "just one more".

Thanks for posting MJ. It is so wonderfully generous when an experienced master shares.

Most of his people shots are tone mapped. Not liking it. Way too fake looking.

Although he does take the picture of the background and the person.

I am very against, merging things together, because now its not a photograph IMO. Its Digital art.

It is some very interesting work and if your looking for an ARTISTIC look they sure fit the bill, very cool stuff. BUT I am with ZHeng on this one as they are no longer PHOTOS but Digital Art now with a ton of post processing. Makes for a great gift, magazine add or canvas print but they are no longer photographs IMO.

Yeah, this is a pretty popular style now that I have been wanting to try for fun. I think people are drawn to it because there is so much detail and things going on. It was pretty neat how he explained the whole process, most photographers who are doing this try and keep it hush.
