1) So Many Photos, So Little Time

As PhotographyCorner continues to grow and establish itself as one of the favorite forums on the internet for photographers, it is only inevitable that more and more photos will be posted on the Corner. We currently have 3 sub-forums where you can place your photos, all with a distinct purpose. Firstly, we have the Photos Sharing Corner where you can post up shots about whatever, regardless of the quality or purpose of the photograph. You won't really get any feedback or a critique in here - it's just a place to share some photos, and maybe to get yourself the courage to post in the other 2 forums. The second forum where you can place your photos is the Feedback Corner. This forum is perfect for posting shots that you know aren't 100%, and you're either looking to see what could have been done better when taking the photo or what can be done now that the photograph has been taken, to make it a better photograph. The third forum where you can post photos up is the Critiques Corner. The forum is for those photographs that you think are 100% and ready for critique. If it's not one of your best shots, it probably doesn't belong in the Critiques Corner. When people review photographs in the Critiques Corner, they expect the shots to be good, and will therefore critique as such.

If you're unsure where to place your photos, try starting at the Photos Sharing Corner, and work your way to the Feedback Corner, and finally, when you're ready, to the Critiques Corner. Here are some useful links that will help you figure out where your shots should go, as well as the guidelines set out for each forum. If you haven't read all or any of them, take a couple minutes to read up on the guidelines for each forum before posting in it.

2) Sponsor

The newsletter this month is sponsored by www.dreamstime.com - a stock photography community that focuses on selling Royalty Free images. With photographers receiving 50% commission from every sale, and tremendous growth over the past year, dreamstime is quickly becoming one of the premiere stock photography sites on the internet. The community is mostly composed of amateur and semipros, with some pro photographers as well. Their business model, which relies on a reasonable pricing structure, and almost 60,000 images already available, is a must for every photographer that wants to reach more markets. Visit www.dreamstime.com for further information.

I've actually had a chance to spend some time looking through the dreamstime site, and there are some great photographs over there, and it seems like a lot of amateur photographers are making some money from selling their photographs. Dreamstime is better than a lot of other similar "stock photography" sites in the fact that you can actually earn a good amount of money selling photos there. At some sites, you earn as little as $.10/photo, whereas at dreamstime, you'll earn at least 10x that amount with each photo. Worth a peek in my opinion. Don't leave all those great photos just sitting in your hard drive, make some money from them!

3) Contest Corner Challenges

CCC#12: Up Close & Personal has come and gone with bradtribbeck, one of our newest members hailing from Powell River, BC, came away with the landslide win. Congrats Brad! You may have noticed, a couple of days before the end of the voting period, you received a reminder email from the site to make sure you get out and vote, and what a difference it made. We had over 100 votes for a contest, which is great. We will, therefore, continue to send out reminder emails for every CCC and PotM contest from now on.

Contest Corner Challenge #13: Portraits started as of today. One thing that makes this contest so unique, is that it is our first Contest Corner Challenge with a prize. That's right. A PRIZE! And I'm not talking about a buy 1, get 1 free coupon from McDonalds here, either. The prize for this contest is valued at over $250!! Only Premiere Members are eligible to win, though, so if you've been considering becoming a Premiere Member, now's the time. The prize, provided by TalentFolio.Net, is a custom website to showcase your photos, or the photos of one of your clients. Check out the contest thread for more details ( http://www.photographycorner.com/viewtopic.php?t=7265 ), and make sure you enter this contest!

4) Photography Resources

If you haven't visited the Photography Resources section of the site in a while, or you're new and didn't even know it existed, there are a ton of great articles and tutorials there, just waiting to be read and learned. If you're interested in writing up an article or tutorial, send me off an email, and we can get it posted on the site ASAP. ohenry has written several great articles in the past month, including "Taking Control of your Images" - an article worth reading regardless of what type of photographer you are, as well as a detailed article on various "Photography Filters". Go to http://www.photographycorner.com/pho...-resources.php to check out all the recently added photography resources on the site.

5) Photography Directory

One of the parts of PhotographyCorner that has been around pretty much since the beginning is our Photography Directory, located at http://www.photographycorner.com/pho...y-sponsors.php Originally started to thank the various people and companies that helped PhotographyCorner come to be, it slowly started growing as a niche directory. Now, with several hundred sites listed, it's becoming a more and more useful resource for both photographers, and people seeking photographers. If you have a photography site, and would like to be listed in our Photography Directory, we can list you for free, just as long as you link back to PhotographyCorner.com from your site. Feel free to email me for more information. We'll also be reorganizing the Photography Directory in the near future. If you're interested in helping out, send me a PM, and I'll recruit you. No special coding or web design skills required.

7) Final Thoughts

Another newsletter has come and gone. I hope you continue to enjoy reading them as I continue to enjoy writing them. Several members have brought up the idea to do the newsletter in "Magazine" format, with photos and articles right in the newsletter. I hope that one day, we will be able to do that. We would probably do it in Adobe PDF format, and would just have it available for download from the site. While that's still a little ways off, I'd love to continue to hear your feedback on the newsletters. For those of you that read it all the way though (thanks, by the way!), what content would you like included in here? Let me know your thoughts - this place wouldn't be a great site without the input and commitment of all the Corner members.

Summer is slowly creeping upon us (at least those of us in the Northern Hemisphere!). That means warmer weather, and more fun stuff to go outside and photograph! But remember, don't spend all your time outside taking pictures, make sure you drop by the Corner every once and a while to show us the fruits of your labor!

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
