1) The World Though a Lens

You know, one of the neat things about photography is that no matter where we are, no matter where we look, there's always something we can capture in a photograph. As long as we have our cameras with us, there are an infinite number of photographs to capture. Even on our most mundane days, in the midst of our most ordinary of routines, if we look at life as if looking through a lens, we'll see dozens, hundreds, thousands, millions of great photographs just waiting to be captured. There are a couple of problems, though. If you don't have your camera with you, all those potential photographs will never be captured. But even if you have your camera, if you don't look for the potential photographs, you won't see them, and again, they'll never be captured. So here's the deal: some time before the end of the weekend, grab your camera, and walk around with it. Whether you're doing laundry, mowing the lawn, walking the dog, going to work, making the bed - whatever - bring your camera, and LOOK for those potential photographs. You'll be surprised the amazing photographs you can find and capture doing things in your daily routine. Then post them in the forums or galleries and give us a glimpse of your life.

3) Corner Contest Coverage

There's a lot to do around the Corner: from the forums, to the galleries, to the articles, blog, tutorials, chat... but one of the main draws has always been the contests. With over 30 contests per year, you can usually find something to enter or vote on. At the end of April, we voted on the May 2008 Photograph of the Month, and fa1sal squeaked out a victory with his photograph "Pearl." Then, last week, Gil Paz (aka zaplig) earned a spectacular victory in Contest Corner Challenge #49: Play Ball. Now, until the end of the day on May 19th, we're accepting entries for CCC#50: What IS That??! We've received a lot of great entries so far, but I want an entry from YOU, $username (there's $200 waiting for the winner - so don't miss this one!!)!! Get all the details here: http://www.photographycorner.com/blo...nnounced-early

4) Premiere Membership

There have been a flood of new members to the Corner over the past month, so to those of you that are new to the Corner - welcome!! The Corner can be a little overwhelming and confusing at first, so if you have any questions, or need a little help, scroll down to the bottom of the forum and look for the Questions & Suggestions forum. There are lots of mini-tutorials and walk-throughs there, and if you can't find what you're looking for, that's the place to ask for help. Another one of the great sections of the Corner is the Premiere Corner. The regular forums are great, but to get the full "Corner Experience," the Premiere Corner is where it's at. Bi-weekly photography projects, the ability to nominate photographs for the Photograph of the Month, cool rank icons, the admiration and respect of your peers, and that's just to start. Oh, and if you're a Premiere Member, you're eligible for bigger prizes for the contests (that's potentially an extra $200 in your pocket for the current CCC). So how does one become a Premiere Member? It'll just take a PayPal account, credit card or check, and you can do it all right here: http://www.photographycorner.com/premiere-membership It's always nice that you can help out a site you use and love, too, right?

5) The Corner Resource Center - How You Can Help

Have you ever wondered how someone made "that photograph look that way?" Or you've been looking for a new tripod, but didn't even know where to start looking. Maybe you're just starting out, and you don't know the first thing about taking your new dSLR off "auto mode." Then the Corner Resource Center is for you. There are hundreds of different articles, tutorials and product reviews just waiting to be read and enjoyed. But how did they get there? I didn't write them all - most of them were submitted by fellow Cornerites like you (note: this is where you come in)! You obviously have some photography equipment, why not write up a review? Maybe you've learned some photography techniques along the way, why not share them with the community? Maybe you do "that neat thing" in Photoshop, why not show the rest of us how you do it? Maybe you... alright, I guess you get the picture. Here's a link to some tips when you're doing your write-up: http://www.photographycorner.com/for...ement.php?f=46 Oh, and if you want to check out the Corner Resource Center to see what's already there, check it out here: http://www.photographycorner.com/resources (or just click on the "resources" tab at the top of every page of the Corner). The more stuff we have in the Corner Resource Center, the better it will become for all of us.

6) "Noteworthy Notables"

For those that are new to the Corner (or for those of you that have never read this far down in a newsletter before), the Noteworthy Notables have been a steadfast section here in the Corner Newsletter. It gives a brief run-down of the cool threads, new articles and blog posts, and other "worth checking out" stuff that has happened here on the Corner. Enjoy!

7) Something Inspirational

For the first little while when doing these newsletters, I usually just talked about the growth of the Corner and kinda summed up how awesome we are, how big we're growing and stuff like that. Lately, though, it seems I've been using this last section of the newsletter to send you off with some sort of inspirational thought - you know, to motivate you in your photography. Well, this newsletter has been sitting here, pretty much done for 2 days, with this last section to go. I'm not sure what to write. Call it procrastination, call it writers block, call it laziness (well, don't call it laziness - that's just plain ol' mean!), I just didn't have anything to say. Then it hit me. You don't need inspiration from me. We've got a community of over twelve thousand other photographers, with hundreds of thousands of photographs to inspire you. If the amazing photographs and photographers that call the Corner their home on the web don't inspire you to get out there and continue to improve your photography, nothing I say will make a smack of difference. So if you're looking for some inspiration, or you need a little kick in the pants, wander around the Corner for an hour - I bet you'll find thousands of reasons to go grab your camera and take some photographs.

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
