a rare find

went to the park this afternoon, ran into an acquaintance there, and he told me he'd seen a hummingbird's nest back among the vines and brambles not far from the boardwalk. he showed me where he saw the hummer land, and sure enough, there she was, sitting in a little nest the size of a small teacup, about 20 feet away... so well hidden that if a leave shifted in the breeze, or the light changed and cast shadows, i had a hard time finding the nest! not the best shot - it's a pretty heavy crop - but i was glad to be able to capture it at all under the circumstances... 40D, 400mm, 1/400 @ f/5.6.

Re: a rare find

What a capture. With the crop here, I get the feel of a painting. Thanks for sharing. First time I've ever seen a Humming Bird nest or a Humming Bird not in flight.

Re: a rare find

A heavy crop and, technically, not perfect... but wow, what a great find! Well done for managing to capture it at all

Re: a rare find

This is very special....I've never seen one still or on a nest either....she looks so proud sitting there and you caught it very well....she is in where she is safe with her little brood.....not long till she'll have to fire up those little wings again and go for food......good job and I like the dof, it highlights her very nicely........
