Family Day at the Beach

I took this photo at a beach in southern California. I really like how it came out and am hoping to get some thoughts about it.

Re: Family Day at the Beach

its definatley a very colour photo and a great catch. i like how the two adults are almost framing the girl in the pink just by looking at her almost.

the colour as i said is great in this, especcially for the summer photo in it!. the shadow cast on her face is unfortunate. The man in the white Tshirt seems to distract alot from the group, i cant seem to focus on the girl looking back when im looking at the shot, maybe because of the duo factor of the shadow and the man, removing one might improve - id recomment PS out the guy, although might be a big job.

Thats just my take on it - overall a definate great shot for the family album

Re: Family Day at the Beach

my take is slightly different. the guy in the white doesn't bother me given the context of the photo. However there seems to be a few blowouts on the right. Overall I'd ahve to agree that tis is a great shot for the family album. Very colorfula as already stated and the girl in pink draws a lot of interest.

Re: Family Day at the Beach

Here's an edit done on the raw version of the photo. I think the highlights look a little better in this version.

I'm curious about this comment. I'm wondering why you don't like the shadow. For me, I liked that her entire face was evenly lit (even if it is within the shadow of her hat). Without the hat, the sun would have created a harsh light on the right side of her face, possibly blowing it out, especially since her hair is so light. I'm just wondering what your thinking is behind it.

Re: Family Day at the Beach

The only aspect in this well done photo is the guy in the surf, his presence hurts/detracts from your family subjects (my point of view). I do like the light, shadows and color, on my screen it looks just right.

Re: Family Day at the Beach

By the way, just FYI, the guy in the white shirt is another family member.

I guess I should have said "4 main subjects" not excluding him as a member of the family. I just feel it would a much stronger stament and elevate the photograph to another level without his inclusion (artistically). I did not mean to slight the make-up of a family photograph.

Re: Family Day at the Beach

It's no big deal, I was just clarifying that he wasn't some random guy. I would have liked to not have him in the photo either, although I didn't think he was as big a distraction as he may actually be.

We all like my brother in law overall, but there are times family members want to push him in the ocean.

I think without the white shirt guy this would be of commercial quality, but as is definitely makes a great image for the family album
