1) Double the Fun

Last month, time got away from us and the Corner Newsletter ended up getting the short end of the stick. I promised to make up for it this month, though, so hopefully you'll find the June 2010 edition of the Corner newsletter is jam-packed full with double the pleasure and double the fun of the original. ;) We've got a $70 rebate on a sweet new lens, contest updates, photographer interviews, a bunch of video corners, cool threads in the forum, and even a couple new resources (an article & product review) added to the Corner Resource Center. So sit back with an iced tea or a cup of coffee and enjoy your (usually) monthly dose of the Corner Newsletter. I dare you to not be inspired by the contents within... ;)

2) Sponsor: Tamron

Tamron's SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 Di-II VC is a high speed standard zoom that features Tamron's VC anti-shake system for ultimate image control. Designed exclusively for Canon and Nikon dSLRs with APS-C-size sensors (26mm to 77mm equivalent), the new lens is a masterpiece of innovative optical design: compact and lightweight, yet high performance delivering a fast f/2.8 aperture over its entire focal-length range. Tamron's Vibration Compensation (VC) image stabilization allows critically sharp handheld image capture and gives 4 extra shutter speed stops for low light/natural light shooting. Save $70 now with mail-in rebate through 8/31/10 on Tamron's newest VC lens! http://su.pr/2FCusL

8) Help Others Help You

It's a pretty basic, all-encompassing concept: If you make it easier for others to do "X," they're more likely to actually do "X." This applies in a couple of different ways around the Corner. Think of it this way, if you see a post on the forums simply with a photo and a comment that says "help me make this photo better," and then you see a post with detailed information about how and why the photo was taken, along with a specific request about color, exposure, etc, which one are you more likely to respond to? Which one is easier to respond to? The one with more information and a specific request, obviously. Or how about this - someone's browsing through posts on the forum, and they come across one by someone who always takes the time to comment on their photos, and one by someone who never or rarely has anything constructive (if anything at all) to say about anyone else's work but their own. Who do you think is going to receive more comments on their photos? The one who participates in the community, of course. If we, as a community, implement this very basic concept, imagine how quickly this place would flourish and grow.

When posting up a photograph for feedback or critique, make sure to include some basic information about how/why/what/where you took the photograph - even the EXIF data - and you'll find you'll receive many more comments and helpful feedback. And when you're browsing the forums, take the time to comment on the work of others. Not only will it be helpful for the photographer who took the photo, but I think you'll find that as you critique the work of others, YOUR photographs will also start to improve. Not only can you help others to help you, you can help YOU (and all of us) help you... if we all work together, we'll all benefit and continue to become better photographers...

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
