1) 2010 Photograph of the Year

There are really only a few explanations that I can think of if you haven't heard about the 2010 Photograph of the Year contest: either you haven't been checking your email, or your internet connection has been down for the past month. OR (and most likely) you know about the contest, but are simply procrastinating getting your entry in. I mean, who would purposely fail to enter a photography contest (that is 100% FREE to enter!!) that has $6,500 in prizes available to be won? The rules are pretty straight forward, and based on past contests, you have better than a .5% chance of winning simply by entering! We've received hundreds of entries so far, though over 100 have been sent back (read the rules, people - they really are simple!!). Get all the details about how and what to enter here: http://www.photographycorner.com/201...ph-of-the-year Entries are due in by January 7th, 2011, and voting will start the week after that. What are you waiting for??! Get your entry in today (and if you're a Premiere Member, you get to enter TWO photos!). Sign up to become a Premiere Member (half price sale on for another day or two) here: http://www.photographycorner.com/premiere-membership Then enter the 2010 Photograph of the Year contest here: http://www.photographycorner.com/201...ear-submitting

2) Sponsor: Tamron AF18-270mm VC

EISA Award Winner Best Travel Zoom 2009-2010. The world’s first 15X zoom lens—is truly the perfect all-in-one standard zoom lens. With its vast zoom-range, the new Tamron AF18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC lens enables the user to cover virtually any photographic subject from wide angle to ultra telephoto simply by turning the zoom control. It covers angles of view equivalent to 28mm to 419mm when converted to the 35mm format. This breakthrough lens is equipped with Tamron’s exclusive, proprietary tri-axial Vibration Compensation (VC) anti-shake mechanism that eliminates or substantially reduces the effects of handheld camera shake, letting you take blur-free hand-held pictures at up to four stops slower than usual. As a result, you can enjoy the convenience of handheld photography in virtually any situation, from shooting candid images, to covering sporting events, to event journalism, without worrying about camera shake having an adverse effect on image quality. In combining an amazingly high zoom ratio along with the VC function Tamron has maintained a high priority on its traditional goals of lightness and compactness. The lens is ultra light at just 19.4 oz. and is a mere 3.8" long. As a result the new Tamron AF18-270mm Di II VC delivers all the functionality and performance you expect from the latest Tamron ultra high power zoom, a lens that exemplifies our time-honored concept of "One great lens covering everything from wide angle to telephoto." This is the ideal standard zoom lens for your camera for stress-free shooting of all subject matter from sunrise to sunset. Shoot hand-held confidently with Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras with smaller APS-C size sensors. And like all Tamron lenses purchased from an authorized Tamron dealer, you get a Tamron 6-Year USA warranty and a $150 mail-in rebate thru 12/31/10.

7) What's Coming for 2011

As you're reading this, it's no doubt already 2011. As I finish writing this, at least in the timezone I'm in, there's just over an hour left in 2010, so by the time I proofread it and send it out to everyone (believe it or not, it does take time to send this newsletter out to 18,000+ people), it'll probably be 2011 almost everywhere. To kick off 2011, we, of course, have the exciting conclusion to the 2010 Photograph of the Year contest. Hundreds of entries, thousands of dollars in prizes, thousands of votes, and hundreds of thousands of visitors - it's always a fun way to kick off the year. We also have some great current and upcoming sponsors for our monthly Photograph of the Month contests, and our Contest Corner Challenges (which will resume in a couple of weeks). We also have some neat give-aways planned for those of you following us on Twitter (http://twitter.com/thecorner) and on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/photographycorner). For 2011, we're going to focus more on product reviews in the Corner Resource Center (http://www.photographycorner.com/resources), and more community building in the forums (http://www.photographycorner.com/forum) - we also have a couple surprises that we're working on. Make sure to stay subscribed to the Corner Blog (http://www.photographycorner.com/blog) to keep on top of all that.

But most of all, continue to enjoy photography. Everyone that makes PhotographyCorner tick (the mods, sponsors, Premiere Members, coders, YOU!), thank you for being a part of the Corner in 2010. We all love photography, and this community just further enhances our love for the art. Cheers to 2011 - may our passion for photography continue to grow, and may we continue to share our love for photography through our little Corner of the Internet. Happy New Year!

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
