NW Trek Eagles

Another set from Northwest Trek, a Tacoma Metropolitan Park wildlife park in rural Pierce County enroute to Mt Rainier NP. These are injured, flightless birds some temporarily and some permanently. Some get released into the wild I believe.

1. An American Bald Eagle

Canon 20D, 100-400mm @ 400
ISO100, f-5.6, 1/50 sec
tripod, Sidekick gimbal head

2. A different angle and therefore different background but also zoomed out more to included its mate.

Canon 20D, 100-400mm @ 275
ISO400, f-11, 1/15 sec
tripod, Sidekick gimbal head
580EX flash & Better Beamer flash extender

3. And both facing the same way

Canon 20D, 100-400mm @ 235
ISO400, f-11, 1/15 sec
tripod, Sidekick gimbal head
580EX flash & Better Beamer flash extender

4. A Golden Eagle. I suspect this is a fairly young one and not yet with mature plumage.

Canon 20D, 100-400mm @ 350
ISO400, f-5.6, 1/30 sec
tripod, Sidekick gimbal head
580EX flash & Better Beamer flash extender

Re: NW Trek Eagles

Russ,

Love the first shot. The sharpness is great and great bokeh also. On a scale of 1 to 10 you get a 9.997.

Re: NW Trek Eagles

No. 1 is a superb portrait. The rest are fine as well, but the first does it for me!

Re: NW Trek Eagles

The whole series is good! The square crop on the first works to a "T". I love the detail in that photo.

Unless the eagles are able to fly a great distance they will not release them into the wild. For instance the two at Woodland Park Zoo are limited in the amount of flying that they can do so they will remain the honored guests and catered to at the zoo for their remaining days.

Re: NW Trek Eagles

Okay, so in your wolf post I said any animal crop feels awkward to me. Here's an exception. That first shot is outstanding. The others are good as well, but lack the intimacy of the first (duh!). I also really like the golden. Nicely done, Russ!
