Initially I was a bit skeptical because I’ve seen a lot of canvas done, and I’ve seen a lot of really poorly done canvas (my local Costco), I figured for the price I’ll get an 8×10 print done of my recent Photograph of the Month win (July 2010).
I went to the website, followed the easy instructions on how to order: basically you upload the image you want, select the mounting and size, pay the bill and wait for it to arrive. 10 minutes after I placed the order I had a call from the owner of the company. I thought to myself that this is pretty odd; normally an online printer will just do as you ask regardless of what the outcome will be and you get what you get - not these guys. Kevin said to me that the crop is going to be a bit of a problem because he needs a 2 inch stretch to do a proper gallery wrap, even a mirror wrap won’t be good enough for this print and he didn’t want to take my money unless it was right. I nearly fell off the chair as this is an online site, it actually has customer service.
We went back and forth in emails discussing the crop and what he needed after I sent another copy that was still a bit short. I sent him the original and hoped for the best. It was in his hands.
A day later I get an email telling me it’s done and printed. He lets it dry a few days before shipping instead of rushing it out and having the ink smear (this has happend to me before some much bigger-name printers). I’d be informed a few days later that it shipped, and it shipped and arrived fast.
The canvas arrived perfectly wrapped - I mean bomb proof wrapping, which I have to admit took me a few minutes to get into, but it was worth the effort. The crop, the colour replication, the quality of the canvas and especially the wood used for the mount was perfect. The wood used was actual wood, not some pressed board mess, not a simple off-the-shelf kit with plastic corners and thin wood. This kit is substantial. The canvas mount will outlast me, let alone the image.
Very impressed, ordered a peel and stick (wall cling) as well and it was the same way: perfectly printer, colours dead on and shipped in a day. Incredible service. All these guys do is print enlargements, and it shows.
If you’re looking for a printer to drop ship, or even to print your own items (Canada only at this point in time), these guys should be put to the test. Check them out online at www.posterjack.ca.
