Changing the Aspect Ratio of Your Photographs

In this tutorial I am going to explain how to change the Aspect Ratio of your photo using Adobe Photoshop Elements. The Aspect Ratio is important because not all photo sizes are equal. A lot of us has done it, we crop and edit the photo, spend a decent amount of time on it, go to the store to print it out and when you do, the composition is different. I am going to show you an example of the different, most common Aspect Ratios. All of the crops on these photos are started in the exact same location. See pictures.

Now that you can see the difference I will show you how to change the Aspect Ratio, it is a very easy process. First you need to select the CROP tool on the left.

Once you have selected the CROP tool you can choose the desired Aspect Ratio at the top.

Remember, select the size you want to PRINT.

If you want to crop vertically instead of horizontally or vise-versa, there is a SWAP HEIGHT & WIDTH button to the right side of the Aspect Ratio selector.

Once you have gotten your desired Aspect Ratio and you have cropped your image. Be sure to save your file using the Save As option so it will not interfere with your original image.
