Adding a Blue/Gradient Sky to Your Photographs

This tutorial will walk you through a quick and easy way to add a blue gradient sky to your photograph (works in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements).

Step 1: Open the picture that has the bland sky.

Step 2: Use the magic wand to select area to change. Make sure you don’t have a check mark in “contiguous” if you have visible sky through an item in the picture. You’ll have to play with the “tolerance” until only the sections you want have been selected (in this case tolerance is 30).

Step 3: Choose a blue for your foreground color.

Step 4: Now you will want to create a new fill layer with gradient.

You can either check “reverse” for the gradient, or set the angle to -90 degrees (making the darker gradient on the top to the lighter gradient on the bottom).

Step 5: To make the sky appear as you would like, adjust the scale to desired effect.

Step 6: Once you have the desired effect, merge the visible layers.

Now you have a somewhat natural looking sky with a darker blue toward the top, and lighter blue toward the bottom.
