Creating a Black & White Photo with Colored Areas Using Photoshop Elements 4

Ok folks, I am by no way a pro at Photoshop, but this has turned out to be very lucrative for me when brides want something different. Also there may be other ways to do this but this is the way I taught myself (using Photoshop Elements 4). Here goes.

Step 1: I open up the photo to work with and then make a duplicate copy of the photo. I label it “Top” to let me know what picture is on top and which is on bottom.

Step 2: Working with the layer named “Top,” I go to ‘Enhance’ -> ‘Adjust Color -> ‘Remove Color.’ You should now see a black and white photo.

Step 3: Now go over to your tools and select the eraser. You need to select the size and, by left clicking and moving the eraser around, you are erasing the top black and white layer and letting the color layer show through. The hardest part is the edges, but time and patience will pay off.
